\u201c"Yesu alipokwisha kubatizwa, mara akapanda kutoka majini; na tazama, mbingu zikamfunukia, akamwona Roho wa Mungu akishuka kama hua, akija juu yake; na ghafla sauti ikatoka mbinguni, ikisema, Huyu ni Mwanangu mpendwa, ninayependezwa naye."\u2018

Bwana Yesu alijitambulisha na ubatizo wa Yohana Mbatizaji, ambao ulikuwa ubatizo wa toba, akitangaza, \u201cTubuni, kwa maana ufalme wa mbinguni umekaribia!\u201d Bwana wetu hakuwa na haja ya toba; hata hivyo, alijitambulisha nayo ili \u201ckutimiza haki yote\u201d (Mathayo 3:15). Tendo hili lilimtambulisha wazi Bwana Yesu na Yohana na kuthibitisha ujumbe wa ufalme.<\/p>

Ubatizo huu uliashiria mwanzo wa huduma ya hadharani ya Bwana Yesu, kama vile makuhani na vitu vitakatifu katika Agano la Kale, ambavyo viliwekwa wakfu kwa mafuta kwa madhumuni matakatifu (Kut. 30:25\u201330). Bwana Yesu alitiwa mafuta na Roho Mtakatifu. Hatuoni tu Uungu mzima wakati wa ubatizo wa Bwana, bali pia tunasikia moyo wa Baba kuhusu Mwanawe mpendwa.<\/p>

Baba alikuwa ameona maisha ya kibinafsi ya Bwana Yesu kwa miaka thelathini. Pazia linavutwa kwa muda mfupi wakati Mariamu na Yusufu waliposhindwa kumpata. Akiwa na umri wa miaka kumi na miwili tu, tunasikia moyo wa Bwana Yesu anaposema, \u201cKwa nini mlinitafuta? Hamkujua ya kuwa imenipasa kuwa katika mambo ya Baba Yangu?\u201d (Luka 2:49). Alikuja kufanya mapenzi ya Yeye aliyemtuma (Yohana 4:34; 5:30; 6:38). Anaonekana si tu kama Mwana wa milele bali pia kama Mtumishi mkamilifu. Baba angeweza kusema, \u201cHuyu ni Mwanangu mpendwa, ninayependezwa naye,\u201d au, kama tafsiri nyingine inavyosema, \u201cnimependezwa naye.\u201d<\/p>

Pia tunasikia usemi huu, \u201cMpendwa Wangu,\u201d unaohusiana na huduma ya Mtumishi Anayeteseka kama ilivyoonyeshwa katika Isaya 42\u201353. Tunaona Isaya 42 ikinukuliwa katika Mathayo 12:18, ambapo kwa mara nyingine tena tunasikia moyo wa Baba: \u201cTazama, Mtumishi wangu niliyemchagua, Mpendwa wangu ambaye roho yangu inapendezwa naye; nitaweka Roho Yangu juu Yake.\u201d<\/p>

Hapa katika mistari yetu, tuna tukio la kwanza kati ya matatu ambapo Baba anazungumza kutoka mbinguni. Zingine mbili ziko kwenye Mlima wa Kubadilika Sura (Mt. 17:5) na kabla tu ya Msalaba (Yohana 12:28).
