It was in the heart and mind of God in eternity past. Before time began, the plan for our redemption was already set in place\u2014and at the center of that plan is the person and work of God\u2019s beloved Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. When we reflect upon the work of Christ, one truth that becomes wonderfully clear is this: He died in our place. The Lord Jesus Christ is our Substitute.<\/p><p data-start=\"743\" data-end=\"1275\">While the word <em data-start=\"758\" data-end=\"772\">substitution<\/em> itself doesn\u2019t appear in the Bible, the truth of it is woven like a scarlet thread throughout Scripture. One of the clearest pictures comes from the familiar story in Genesis 22, when Abraham, in obedience to God\u2019s command, took Isaac up Mount Moriah to offer him as a sacrifice. Just as he was about to act, the Lord intervened, and a ram caught in the thicket became the burnt offering\u2014\u201coffered up instead of his son.\u201d That simple phrase illustrates substitution: one taking the place of another.<\/p><p data-start=\"1277\" data-end=\"1745\">This brings us to the question: Why do we need a substitute? The Bible does not leave us in the dark here. Romans 3:23 plainly says, \u201cAll have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,\u201d and in chapter 6, \u201cThe wages of sin is death.\u201d This is the universal condition of humanity\u2014we all stand guilty before a holy God. But praise be to God, He has provided a way of escape: a Substitute, who stood in our place, bore our judgment, and opened the way to eternal life.<\/p><p data-start=\"2174\" data-end=\"2666\">In the New Testament, the thought of substitution is captured in phrases like \u201cfor us\u201d and \u201cin our place.\u201d Consider 2 Corinthians 5:21: <em data-start=\"2310\" data-end=\"2417\">\u201cFor He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.\u201d<\/em> Or 1 Peter 3:18: <em data-start=\"2435\" data-end=\"2530\">\u201cChrist also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God.\u201d<\/em> These are not just doctrinal verses\u2014they are deeply personal. Christ took my place. He bore my sin. He stood where I should have stood.<\/p><p data-start=\"3585\" data-end=\"3887\"><strong>Anchor For Today:<\/strong><br \/>Christ died in your place.
