So let\u2019s begin by turning to Psalm 34.<\/p><p data-start=\"554\" data-end=\"1089\">This psalm was written by David when he pretended madness before Abimelech, who drove him away, and David departed. The psalm begins with a heartfelt salute from David to God (<em data-start=\"734\" data-end=\"743\">vv. 1\u20133<\/em>), followed by David\u2019s focus on God\u2019s safety (<em data-start=\"793\" data-end=\"802\">vv. 4\u20137<\/em>), then God\u2019s supply (<em data-start=\"828\" data-end=\"838\">vv. 8\u201310<\/em>). David goes on to mention God\u2019s support (<em data-start=\"885\" data-end=\"896\">vv. 11\u201319<\/em>), and concludes with God\u2019s security (<em data-start=\"938\" data-end=\"949\">vv. 20\u201322<\/em>). But right in the middle of this psalm, we see a beautiful emphasis on God\u2019s goodness\u2014one of the key things He supplies to His people!<\/p><p data-start=\"1091\" data-end=\"1135\">Let\u2019s take a closer look at verse 8. Psalm 34:8 invites us to:<\/p><blockquote data-start=\"1228\" data-end=\"1270\"><p data-start=\"1230\" data-end=\"1270\"><em data-start=\"1230\" data-end=\"1270\">\u201cTaste and see that the Lord is good.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote><p data-start=\"1272\" data-end=\"1443\">The sequence of this phrase makes tasting the action and seeing the result. The Lord wants us to engage all our senses in order to truly discover His goodness!<\/p><p data-start=\"1445\" data-end=\"1512\">But notice that three additional truths emerge in this passage:<\/p><p data-start=\"1445\" data-end=\"1512\">We are to take refuge in Him and be blessed.<br \/>We are to fear the Lord and have no lack.<br \/>We are to seek the Lord and lack no good thing.<\/p><p data-start=\"1675\" data-end=\"1864\">Taking refuge, fearing the Lord, and seeking Him are three ways of tasting\u2014ways of experiencing Him. The more closely we engage with Him, the more we will come to know His goodness.<\/p><p data-start=\"1866\" data-end=\"2068\">He urges us to taste\u2014to personally experience\u2014His goodness. He is the foundation of all goodness and everything truly good. His goodness is a foundation stone for all our thoughts about Him!<\/p><p data-start=\"1866\" data-end=\"2068\"><strong>Anchor For Today:<\/strong><br \/><em>How good is the God we adore, Our faithful unchangeable Friend: <\/em><br \/><em>Whose love is as great as His power, And knows neither measure nor end!<br \/>&#8211; Joseph Hart<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Goodness of God \u201cTaste and see that the Lord is good\u201d Psalm 34:8 There is great encouragement in looking at who our God is\u2014not only to consider the things about Him that we\u2019ll never fully understand, but also to reflect on what He has revealed to us in His Word.
