Be strong! I have overcome the world!\u201d<\/em> He was looking past all that lay ahead of Him and claimed the victory that would be His. He is the <strong data-start=\"375\" data-end=\"394\">Great Overcomer<\/strong>!<\/p><p data-start=\"399\" data-end=\"826\">The word \u201covercome\u201d is where we get our word Nike, meaning victory. It appears around 28 times in 16 different forms across 24 verses in the New Testament. Christ overcame the world during His life. In His death, He bound the strong man and took his spoils (Luke 11:22). Through His resurrection, ascension, and exaltation, Christ gained the victory: <em data-start=\"758\" data-end=\"811\">\u201cGod has made this same Jesus both Lord and Christ\u201d<\/em> (Acts 2:36).<\/p><p data-start=\"828\" data-end=\"1105\">He overcame the world\u2019s system that opposes God. He is the Great Victor! The Cross marked the defeat of the ruler of this world. Romans 3:4 speaks of a legal victory, while Romans 12:21 highlights a moral victory\u2014one that can be reflected in our lives as believers.<\/p><p data-start=\"1107\" data-end=\"1148\">Here are a few powerful cross-references:<\/p><p data-start=\"1152\" data-end=\"1284\"><strong data-start=\"1152\" data-end=\"1166\">John 12:31<\/strong> \u2013 <em data-start=\"1169\" data-end=\"1253\">\u201cNow is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.\u201d<\/em> (See also John 14:30; 16:11)<br \/><strong data-start=\"1287\" data-end=\"1303\">Genesis 3:15<\/strong> \u2013 <em data-start=\"1306\" data-end=\"1452\">\u201cAnd I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.\u201d<br \/><\/em><strong data-start=\"1457\" data-end=\"1476\">Colossians 2:15<\/strong> \u2013 <em data-start=\"1479\" data-end=\"1589\">\u201cHaving disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.\u201d<br \/><\/em><strong data-start=\"1594\" data-end=\"1610\">Hebrews 2:14<\/strong> \u2013 <em data-start=\"1613\" data-end=\"1704\">\u201cThat through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil.\u201d<br \/><\/em><strong data-start=\"1709\" data-end=\"1723\">1 John 3:8<\/strong> \u2013 <em data-start=\"1726\" data-end=\"1823\">\u201cFor this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.\u201d<\/em><\/p><p data-start=\"1825\" data-end=\"2072\">The Lord Jesus has overcome sin, unbelief, death, the gates of Hades, and everything that would discourage, deflate, or oppose the gospel. He has overcome anything and everything! We do not fight for victory; we fight from His victory.<\/p><p data-start=\"2074\" data-end=\"2093\">Paul reminds us in:<\/p><p data-start=\"2097\" data-end=\"2206\"><strong data-start=\"2097\" data-end=\"2120\">1 Corinthians 15:57<\/strong> \u2013 <em data-start=\"2123\" data-end=\"2204\">\u201cBut thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.\u201d<br \/><\/em><strong data-start=\"2209\" data-end=\"2234\">2 Corinthians 2:14\u201315<\/strong> \u2013 <em data-start=\"2237\" data-end=\"2483\">\u201cNow thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.
