Dus ging hij en deed volgens het woord van de HEER, want hij ging naar de beek Cherith, die in de Jordaan uitmondt, en bleef daar. De raven brachten hem &#039;s morgens brood en vlees, en &#039;s avonds brood en vlees; en hij dronk uit de beek. En na een tijd droogde de beek op, omdat er geen regen in het land gevallen was.\u201d<br \/><strong>1 Koningen 17:4-7<\/strong><\/em><\/p><p>De Heer had Elia opgedragen naar de beek Cherith te gaan en zich daar te verbergen. Elia bevond zich nu in het openbaar, verscheen voor koning Achab en verklaarde dat het niet zou regenen. Jakobus 5:17-18 onthult de ware betekenis hiervan en vertelt ons: &quot;Elia was een mens met een natuur zoals de onze, en hij bad vurig dat het niet zou regenen; en het regende niet op het land gedurende drie jaar en zes maanden. En hij bad opnieuw, en de hemel gaf regen, en de aarde bracht haar vruchten voort.&quot; Het zich verbergen in Cherith was niet bedoeld om te leren bidden; hij was immers al een man van gebed. Het zich verbergen moest Elia leren dat er geen plaats is voor zelfzucht in de dienst van de Heer. Zoals C.H. Mackintosh het verwoordde: &quot;Onze tijd van training in het geheim moet veel langer zijn dan onze tijd van optreden in het openbaar.&quot;\u201c<\/p><p>Deze tijd alleen met de Heer was voor Elia ook op een andere manier waardevol. Het leerde hem dat God alleen in zijn behoeften voorzag. Elia had water om te drinken, en de Heer gebood raven hem te voeden. Wanneer we in het centrum van Gods wil zijn, zal Hij in al onze behoeften voorzien. De raaf was een onreine vogel (Leviticus 11:13-19), maar de Heer wilde Zijn dienaar laten zien dat Hij boven alles stond en voor hem zou zorgen terwijl hij zich verborgen hield. De Heer zond hem elke ochtend en avond brood en vlees via deze raven, terwijl hij ook dronk uit de beek.<\/p><p>Toen de beek opdroogde, was de Heer, die voor Elia had gezorgd, nog steeds bij hem! Het opdrogen van de beek kwam voor de Heer niet als een verrassing. Zijn zorg voor Elia werd niet belemmerd door het opdrogen van de beek, en Hij had nog steeds de controle. Wanneer de beken in ons leven opdrogen, moeten we bedenken dat de Heer in staat is te voorzien. De genade die ons heeft gered, is de genade die ons kan ondersteunen, en Zijn ondersteunende genade in ons leven is voldoende voor onze behoeften!<\/p><p><strong>Ankerpunt voor vandaag:<\/strong><br \/>Gods voorziening was mogelijk omdat Elia zich verborgen had gehouden en zich bevond waar de Heer hem had opgedragen te zijn.
