Nauwelijks was hij ter plaatse aangekomen (vers 1) of de Heer droeg hem al op zich te verbergen (1 Koningen 17:2-3). Hoe kun je een bediening opzetten zonder openlijke verkondiging van prediking en macht? Het idee om jezelf te verbergen druist volledig in tegen de menselijke natuur en tegen de heersende opvattingen in onze wereld. De Heer stond op het punt Elia op een machtige manier te gebruiken, maar Elia moest beseffen dat de kracht niet in zijn eigen vermogen lag. Hij moest duidelijk ervaren dat &quot;Jehova God is&quot;, wat de betekenis van zijn naam is. Elia had een hernieuwde waardering voor de Heer en het feit dat Hij een levende God is. Hij besefte ook dat hij in de aanwezigheid van zijn God stond en dat zijn oren openstonden om de Heer te horen. Maar hij moest de waarde van een verborgen leven in Cherith leren kennen.<\/p><p>Cherith betekent &quot;wegsnijden&quot;, &quot;afsnijden&quot; of &quot;afbreken&quot;. De Heer bracht hem hierheen om zijn zelfzuchtigheid weg te snijden. Het is de plaats waar de Heer ons leert volledig op Hem te vertrouwen. Cherith is de plaats waar God onze gedachten en verlangens in overeenstemming brengt met de Zijne.<\/p><p>In de Bijbel verbergt de Heer Zijn dienaren voordat Hij hen gebruikt. Jozef werd verborgen in een put, daarna in een gevangenis, voordat hij naar het paleis kwam. Mozes werd verborgen in de woestijn voordat hij het volk uit Egypte leidde. David werd verborgen in de bergen en vluchtte in en uit grotten om aan Saul te ontkomen, voordat hij als koning werd erkend. Paulus werd na zijn bekering drie jaar lang verborgen gehouden in Arabi\u00eb, voordat hij de missionaris werd die we kennen als de apostel Paulus. En hier verbergt God Elia in Cherith v\u00f3\u00f3r het grote conflict op de berg Karmel met de profeten van Ba\u00e4l.<\/p><p>De oorspronkelijke slogan van YouTube was &#039;Broadcast Yourself&#039;. De slogan voor het christelijke leven is precies het tegenovergestelde van &#039;zend jezelf uit&#039;. Het is &#039;verberg jezelf&#039;, zoals Paulus verklaarde: &#039;Ik ben met Christus gekruisigd, maar ik leef; niet ik, maar Christus leeft in mij. En het leven dat ik nu in het vlees leid, leid ik door het geloof in de Zoon van God, die mij liefheeft en Zichzelf voor mij heeft gegeven&#039; (Galaten 2:20).<\/p><p><strong>Ankerpunt voor vandaag:<\/strong><br \/>Niet ik, maar Christus! Dit is de waarde van het verborgen leven, dat Christus gezien en gehoord mag worden!<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Hidden Life
