Nahum werd door de Heer geroepen om oordeel te profeteren over precies die mensen tot wie Jona met tegenzin had gepredikt en die zich hadden bekeerd. Maar de tijd was verstreken en de inwoners van Ninev\u00e9 waren teruggevallen in hun zondige wegen. In het eerste hoofdstuk lezen we over de aankondiging van het oordeel; in hoofdstuk 2 over de macht van het oordeel; en in hoofdstuk 3 over de definitieve aard van dat oordeel. Drie hoofdstukken vol oordeel rondom deze profeet!<\/p><p>Maar ons vers staat daar als een vuurtoren, die hoop uitstraalt in de donkere nacht voor allen die voorbijgaan! In dit ene vers zien we drie dingen.<\/p><p>Allereerst lezen we over de goedheid van God. Dit is misschien niet wat wij zelf zouden benadrukken. We zouden wellicht hebben gezegd: &quot;De Heer is heilig&quot; of &quot;De Heer is groot&quot;, maar Nahum verkondigt de goedheid van de Heer! De Heer is goed in ethische, morele en praktische zin. David herinnert ons eraan dat de Heer goed is en goed doet (Psalm 119:68). De goedheid van de Heer werd geopenbaard aan mannen als Mozes en Jeremia (Exodus 33:19; 34:6; Klaagliederen 3:25). Deze goedheid van God werd gedurende het hele leven van de Heer Jezus getoond toen Hij rondging en goed deed (Handelingen 10:38).<\/p><p>Nahum kon zelfs tijdens het oordeel verklaren dat de Heer goed is, omdat Hij een veilige haven is voor allen die op Hem vertrouwen. Hij is een toevluchtsoord en een veilige plek in tijden van nood (Psalm 46:1-2). Nahums boodschap is duidelijk: de Heer is in staat hen die zich tot Hem wenden te redden van de strengheid van het oordeel dat spoedig over Ninev\u00e9 zou komen.<\/p><p>De Heer was geduldig geweest met deze stad, zoals Hij dat vandaag de dag ook is met de mensheid. Petrus herinnert ons eraan: &quot;De Heer is niet traag in het nakomen van zijn belofte, zoals sommigen denken, maar Hij is lankmoedig jegens ons en wil niet dat iemand verloren gaat, maar dat allen tot bekering komen&quot; (2 Petrus 3:9).<\/p><p>Net zoals het oordeel over Ninev\u00e9 kwam, zo komt het ook over allen die Gods verlossing door Zijn Zoon verwerpen. &quot;Want God heeft Zijn Zoon niet naar de wereld gezonden om de wereld te veroordelen, maar opdat de wereld door Hem gered zou worden&quot; (Joh. 3:17).<\/p><p><strong>Ankerpunt voor vandaag:<\/strong><br \/>Vandaag staat er een vuurtoren die het evangelie van Gods genade uitstraalt en de boodschap verkondigt: God houdt van je! Hij heeft een weg tot redding geboden aan het kruis van Jezus Christus.
