Dit kan voor verschillende mensen verschillende betekenissen hebben, maar in deze serie willen we leren wat de Bijbel zegt over vergeving.<\/p><p>Ten eerste is het nuttig om een werkdefinitie te geven van wat vergeving precies inhoudt. In de Bijbel draagt vergeving de betekenis van &#039;loslaten&#039;, &#039;wegsturen&#039; of &#039;toegeven&#039;. Het Griekse woord dat vaak vertaald wordt als vergeving, impliceert het kwijtschelden van een schuld. We kunnen dus zeggen dat vergeven betekent &#039;liefdevol en vrijwillig een schuld kwijtschelden&#039;. Maar, anders gezegd, iemand vergeven betekent afstand doen van mijn recht om die persoon de pijn die hij of zij mij heeft aangedaan kwalijk te nemen!<\/p><p>Ten tweede is het nuttig te begrijpen dat er verschillende soorten vergeving worden genoemd in het Woord van God. De eerste die we moeten overwegen is wat positionele vergeving wordt genoemd, ook wel gerechtelijke vergeving, die verbonden is met onze redding en onze positie voor God. Zij die hun geloof hebben gesteld in het volbrachte werk van Christus aan het kruis, zijn vergeven door een heilige God: &quot;In Hem hebben wij verlossing door Zijn bloed, de vergeving van zonden, overeenkomstig de rijkdom van Zijn genade&quot; (Efezi\u00ebrs 1:7). Kolossenzen 2:13 voegt daaraan toe: &quot;En u, die dood was in uw overtredingen en in de onbesnedenheid van uw vlees, heeft Hij samen met Hem levend gemaakt, door u al uw overtredingen te vergeven.&quot;\u201c<\/p><p>Een van de meest ontroerende sc\u00e8nes in de hele Schrift is die van onze Heer Jezus Christus, die, nadat Hij was geslagen, gegeseld, bespot en bespuugd, aan het kruis hing en uitkeek over de menigte die had geroepen: &quot;Kruisig Hem! Kruisig Hem! Wij willen niet dat deze Man over ons regeert!&quot; Toen richtte de gezegende Heer Jezus, genageld aan het kruis, hangend tussen hemel en aarde, tussen een heilige God en zondige mensen, Zich op om adem te halen en zei: &quot;Vader, vergeef hun, want zij weten niet wat zij doen.&quot;\u201c<\/p><p>De boodschap van het kruis is vergeving die leidt tot herstel. Het kruis is h\u00e9t voorbeeld van de hoge prijs van vergeving: &quot;Want Christus heeft ook eens geleden voor de zonden, de rechtvaardige voor de onrechtvaardigen, opdat Hij ons tot God zou brengen.
