We kennen het verhaal, maar wat mij zo verbaast, is dat Jona, terwijl hij voor God vluchtte, wist dat God geduldig was! Kijk eens wat hij zegt in Jona 4:1-2: &quot;Maar Jona was zeer ontstemd en werd boos. Daarom bad hij tot de HEER en zei: &#039;Ach HEER, heb ik dit niet gezegd toen ik nog in mijn land was? Daarom ben ik eerder naar Tarsis gevlucht, want ik weet dat U een genadige en barmhartige God bent, geduldig en vol liefde, iemand die afziet van het doen van kwaad.&#039;&quot; Jona wist dat dit de God van geduld was!<\/p><p>Paulus herinnert Timote\u00fcs en elke prediker eraan: \u201cVerkondig het woord! Wees er klaar voor, in goede en in slechte tijden. Overtuig, bestraf, vermaan, met alle geduld en onderwijs\u201d (2 Tim. 4:2). Soms verwachten we dat mensen in de gemeente of nieuwe gelovigen het meteen begrijpen, maar we vergeten hoe lang het voor ons heeft geduurd en hoe geduldig God met ons is geweest!<\/p><p>We hebben allemaal Gods geduld in ons leven ervaren. Soms zeggen we zelfs tegen anderen: &quot;Heb geduld met me; God is nog niet klaar met me.&quot; Het grappige is dat we willen dat anderen geduldig met ons zijn, maar zelf zijn we niet altijd even bereid om geduldig te zijn met anderen! Maar als we vervuld en geleid worden door de Heilige Geest, zal geduld, of lankmoedigheid, een van de bewijzen zijn van die leiding (Galaten 5:22).<\/p><p>In Efezi\u00ebrs 4:2-3 worden we aangespoord: &quot;in alle nederigheid en zachtheid, met geduld, elkaar verdragend in liefde, en ernaar strevend de eenheid van de Geest te bewaren in de band van de vrede.&quot; Als we gedreven worden door de liefde die in ons is uitgestort, dan moeten we die ook tonen. Een van de dingen die we lezen in het hoofdstuk over de liefde (1 Korinti\u00ebrs 13) is dat &quot;de liefde lankmoedig is&quot;.\u201c<\/p><p>Paulus wist hoe belangrijk geduld en lankmoedigheid zijn, en hij benadrukt ze herhaaldelijk in zijn geschriften aan Gods volk. In Kolossenzen 1:9-11 bad hij: &quot;Daarom bidden ook wij, sinds de dag dat wij het gehoord hebben, onophoudelijk voor u en vragen wij dat u vervuld mag worden met de kennis van Zijn wil in alle wijsheid en geestelijk inzicht, opdat u waardig wandelt voor de Heer, Hem volkomen behaagt, vruchtbaar bent in elk goed werk en groeit in de kennis van God, gesterkt met alle kracht, overeenkomstig Zijn heerlijke macht, tot alle geduld en lankmoedigheid met vreugde.&quot; Later in hetzelfde boek zegt hij: &quot;Daarom, als uitverkorenen van God, heiligen en geliefden, bekleed u met barmhartigheid, vriendelijkheid, nederigheid, zachtmoedigheid en lankmoedigheid; verdraag elkaar en vergeef elkaar, als iemand een klacht tegen een ander heeft; zoals Christus u vergeven heeft, zo moet ook u doen&quot; (Kol 3:12-13).<\/p><p>Misschien is een van de redenen waarom we zoveel verbroken relaties, zoveel problemen in gezinnen en zoveel problemen in de gemeenten hebben, dat we uit het oog zijn verloren hoe geduldig de God van geduld is! Misschien is dit wel een van de redenen waarom we elkaar zo snel afwijzen en negeren!<\/p><p><strong>Ankerpunt voor vandaag:<\/strong><br \/>Mogen we Hem steeds meer zien als de God van geduld, en moge Hij ons helpen om datzelfde geduld jegens elkaar te tonen!<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Patience of God Think of just how patient God was with Jonah.
