De rest van het verhaal kennen we zoals het is opgetekend in Handelingen 27. De storm stak op, het schip en de lading gingen verloren, en door Gods genade werden Paulus en zijn metgezellen gered.<\/p><p>De centurio moest beslissen of hij de winter in Fair Havens zou doorbrengen of zou uitvaren om de haven van Phoenix te bereiken. We kunnen veel leren van de fouten van de centurio. Zijn manier van beslissen is een klassiek voorbeeld van hoe je de wil van God niet moet bepalen.<\/p><p><em><strong>Hij werd ongeduldig.<\/strong><\/em> (Handelingen 27:7-9, 12). Hij wilde niet in de oncomfortabele haven van Fair Havens blijven, omdat die te open lag voor de winterstormen. Phoenix had een beschuttere haven. Hij wilde verder trekken. Ongeduld is een teken van onvolwassenheid en ongeloof. De profeet Jesaja herinnert ons eraan:, <em>\u201cWie gelooft, zal zich niet haasten.\u201d<\/em> (Jesaja 28:16).<\/p><p><em><strong>Hij luisterde naar het &quot;deskundig advies&quot;.\u201c<\/strong><\/em> van de stuurman en kapitein van het schip in plaats van Gods Woord (Handelingen 27:10-11). Wat de \u201cdeskundigen\u201d ook zeggen, vertrouw op de waarheid van Gods Woord.<\/p><p><em><strong>Hij bracht een stem uit<\/strong><\/em> (Handelingen 27:12). De meerderheid stemde voor vertrek, en die meerderheid had het mis! De meerderheid hield Isra\u00ebl immers buiten het Beloofde Land, en de meerderheid stemde voor de kruisiging van Christus! Gehoorzaam Gods Woord, zelfs als de hele wereld tegen je is.<\/p><p><em><strong>Hij wandelde op zicht, niet op geloof.<\/strong><\/em> (Handelingen 27:13). De \u201czuidelijke wind waaide zachtjes\u201d en was voor hem in ieder geval het signaal om in beweging te komen. Wees op je hoede voor \u201cgouden kansen\u201d die Gods instructies lijken tegen te spreken. Zuidelijke winden veranderen vaak in stormachtige winden.<\/p><p><strong>Ankerpunt voor vandaag:<\/strong><br \/>Soms belanden we om dezelfde redenen in de problemen.
