Het zijn waarschijnlijk enkele van de bekendste verzen in de Bijbel, maar het is mogelijk dat we er zo vertrouwd mee raken dat we hun betekenis voor onszelf verliezen. Laten we even stilstaan bij de reddende genade van God in ons leven. De Bijbel leert ons: &quot;Want allen hebben gezondigd en missen de heerlijkheid van God&quot; (Romeinen 3:23), en vervolgt: &quot;Want het loon van de zonde is de dood, maar de gave van God is het eeuwige leven in Christus Jezus, onze Heer&quot; (Romeinen 6:23). Loon is wat we verdienen of waar we recht op hebben op basis van onze inspanningen of prestaties, terwijl een gratis geschenk iets is dat de ontvanger niets kost, omdat de gever er al voor betaald heeft.<\/p><p>De verzen van vandaag vertellen ons dat God ons door genade heeft gered toen u en ik ons geloof stelden in het volbrachte werk van Zijn geliefde Zoon, de Heer Jezus Christus! Redding is geen beloning voor het doen van goede daden. Redding is iets wat God had bedacht en wat de Heer Jezus mogelijk maakte toen Hij Zijn leven gaf aan het kruis op Golgotha. Romeinen 5:8 zegt: &quot;God bewijst Zijn liefde jegens ons, doordat Christus voor ons gestorven is toen wij nog zondaars waren.&quot; Het was God die het initiatief nam, en het was de dood, de begrafenis en de opstanding van de Heer Jezus die onze redding mogelijk maakten. Paulus, die Jesaja 65:1 citeert, maakt dit initi\u00ebrende karakter van Gods genade heel duidelijk: &quot;Ik ben gevonden door mensen die Mij niet zochten, Ik ben bekendgemaakt aan mensen die Mij niet vroegen&quot; (Romeinen 10:20). Johannes zou daaraan toevoegen: &quot;Hierin bestaat de liefde: niet dat wij God hebben liefgehad, maar dat Hij ons heeft liefgehad en Zijn Zoon heeft gezonden als verzoening voor onze zonden&quot; (1 Joh. 4:10).<\/p><p>We lezen duidelijk in ons vers dat redding door geloof is en niet door werken. Paulus maakte dit duidelijk in zijn onderwijs in Romeinen: &quot;Wie werkt, ontvangt geen loon als genade, maar als schuld. Maar wie niet werkt, maar gelooft in Hem die de goddelozen rechtvaardigt, wordt tot gerechtigheid gerekend&quot; (Rom. 4:4-5). Redding is een gratis geschenk van God, waarvoor niet gewerkt of op welke manier dan ook verdiend kan worden, omdat we dood waren in onze overtredingen en zonden en geen enkel teken van leven jegens God konden tonen! &quot;Maar God, die rijk is aan barmhartigheid, heeft ons, uit liefde voor ons, levend gemaakt met Christus toen we dood waren in onze overtredingen (door genade bent u gered), en ons samen met Hem opgewekt en ons samen met Hem een plaats gegeven in de hemelse gewesten in Christus Jezus&quot; (Efezi\u00ebrs 2:4-6).<\/p><p><strong>Ankerpunt voor vandaag:<\/strong><br \/>Het was God die het initiatief nam om ons te redden, en het was de dood, begrafenis en opstanding van de Heer Jezus die onze redding mogelijk maakte.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Saved By Grace Alone For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.Ephesians 2:8-9 How many times have you heard these verses quoted or spoken them yourself?
