Voed mij met het voedsel dat mij is toegewezen; opdat ik niet verzadigd raak en U verloochen en zeg: \u2018Wie is de Heer?\u2019 Of opdat ik niet arm raak en steel en de naam van mijn God ontheilig.\u201d<br \/><strong>Spreuken 30:7-9<\/strong><\/em><\/p><p>De meesten van ons kennen waarschijnlijk wel het gebed van Jabez, maar hoe bekend zijn we met het gebed van Agur? Zijn gebed is namelijk het enige gebed dat in het boek Spreuken is opgetekend. Hij vroeg de Heer om twee specifieke dingen: integriteit en tevredenheid.<\/p><p>Agur wilde een leven van integriteit leiden voor zijn God, en hij omschreef dit leven als een leven zonder valsheid en leugens. Het woord voor valsheid betekent leegte of ijdelheid. Het woord voor leugens betekent valsheid of bedrog. Deze twee woorden vatten de essentie van deze wereld samen, met al haar loze beloften en misleidende praktijken. Agur bidt niet alleen om hulp om de waarheid te spreken; hij bidt om beschermd te worden tegen de verleiding van alles wat vals is en alles wat in strijd is met de waarheid.<\/p><p>Er wordt vaak gezegd: &quot;Reputatie is wat mensen van je denken; integriteit is wat je bent als er niemand anders in de buurt is.&quot; Deze wereld probeert onze aandacht af te leiden van het volgen van de Heer door middel van valse beloften, valse hoop en valse genoegens. Maar het Woord van Waarheid, de Bijbel, wijst ons naar Degene die de Waarheid is: de Heer Jezus Christus. Agur vertrouwde zichzelf niet en stelde geen vertrouwen in het vlees.<\/p><p>De apostel Johannes spoort ons aan: \u201cHeb de wereld en de dingen van de wereld niet lief. Want als iemand de wereld liefheeft, is de liefde van de Vader niet in hem. Want alles wat in de wereld is \u2013 de begeerte van het vlees, de begeerte van de ogen en de hoogmoed van het leven \u2013 is niet van de Vader, maar van de wereld. En de wereld gaat voorbij, en haar begeerte ook; maar wie de wil van God doet, blijft voor eeuwig\u201d (1 Johannes 2:15-17).<\/p><p>De apostel Jakobus waarschuwt ons ook: &quot;Weet u niet dat vriendschap met de wereld vijandschap met God is? Wie daarom een vriend van de wereld wil zijn, maakt zichzelf tot een vijand van God&quot; (Jakobus 4:4). David bad: &quot;Wend mijn ogen af van de nutteloze dingen en geef mij nieuw leven op uw weg&quot; (Psalm 119:37). Dit is in feite de gedachte achter Matte\u00fcs 6:13: &quot;En leid ons niet in verleiding, maar verlos ons van de boze. Want van U is het koninkrijk en de macht en de heerlijkheid tot in eeuwigheid.&quot;\u201c<\/p><p><strong>Ankerpunt voor vandaag:<\/strong><br \/>Bezitten wij de wijsheid en toewijding van Agur? Mogen wij \u201conze ogen op Jezus richten\u201d, en mogen \u201cde aardse dingen vreemd vervagen in het licht van Zijn heerlijkheid en genade.\u201d<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Prayer For Integrity \u201cTwo things I request of You (Deprive me not before I die): Remove falsehood and lies far from me; Give me neither poverty nor riches.
