Tegen zulke dingen bestaat geen wet.\u201d<br \/><strong data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"179\">Galaten 5:22-23<\/strong><\/em><\/p><p data-start=\"226\" data-end=\"571\">Het is interessant om op te merken dat toen de apostel <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Paulus de apostel<\/span><\/span> verscheen eerder <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Antonius Felix<\/span><\/span>, \u201cHij redeneerde over rechtvaardigheid, zelfbeheersing en het komende oordeel.\u201d Daarop \u201cwerd Felix bang en antwoordde: \u2018Ga nu weg; wanneer ik een geschikt moment heb, zal ik u roepen\u2019\u201d (Handelingen 24:25).<\/p><p data-start=\"573\" data-end=\"762\">De Farizee\u00ebn waren religieuze leiders die vastten, baden en aalmoezen gaven. Uiterlijk leek het alsof ze zelfbeheersing bezaten. Toch zei de Heer Jezus in Matte\u00fcs 23:25, 27 over hen: <span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, 'Noto Sans', sans-serif, 'Apple Color Emoji', 'Segoe UI Emoji', 'Segoe UI Symbol', 'Noto Color Emoji';\">\u201cWee jullie, schriftgeleerden en Farizee\u00ebn, huichelaars! Want jullie reinigen de buitenkant van de beker en de schaal, maar vanbinnen zijn ze vol afpersing en zelfzucht\u2026 Wee jullie, schriftgeleerden en Farizee\u00ebn, huichelaars! Want jullie zijn als witgepleisterde graven, die er vanbuiten wel mooi uitzien, maar vanbinnen vol liggen met beenderen van doden en allerlei onreinheid.\u201d<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"1110\" data-end=\"1381\">Volgens de Schrift lijkt het erop dat Felix openlijk en zonder zelfbeheersing leefde, terwijl de Farizee\u00ebn uiterlijk een gedisciplineerd leven leidden, maar innerlijk gekenmerkt werden door zelfzucht. Geen van beiden wist wat het betekende om een leven te leiden dat vervuld was van de Geest en ware zelfbeheersing te tonen.<\/p><p data-start=\"1383\" data-end=\"1592\">Zelfbeheersing wordt soms vertaald als <em data-start=\"1423\" data-end=\"1435\">matigheid<\/em>. Het is het vermogen om iemands hartstochten en verlangens te beheersen. De apostel Paulus illustreert dit door het christelijke leven te vergelijken met een hardloopwedstrijd in 1 Korinti\u00ebrs 9:24-27. <span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, 'Noto Sans', sans-serif, 'Apple Color Emoji', 'Segoe UI Emoji', 'Segoe UI Symbol', 'Noto Color Emoji';\">\u201cWeet u niet dat alle deelnemers aan een wedstrijd weliswaar rennen, maar dat slechts \u00e9\u00e9n de prijs wint? Ren daarom zo dat u die prijs kunt winnen. En iedereen die meedoet aan een wedstrijd, is in alles beheerst. Zij doen het om een vergankelijke kroon te winnen, maar wij om een onvergankelijke kroon. Daarom ren ik zo: niet onbezonnen. Zo strijd ik: niet als iemand die in de lucht slaat. Maar ik tuchtig mijn lichaam en breng het onder controle, opdat ik, nadat ik anderen heb gepredikt, zelf niet afgekeurd word.\u201d<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"2088\" data-end=\"2149\"><span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Petrus de apostel<\/span><\/span> Dit stelt ons eveneens voor uitdagingen: <span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, 'Noto Sans', sans-serif, 'Apple Color Emoji', 'Segoe UI Emoji', 'Segoe UI Symbol', 'Noto Color Emoji';\">\u201cDoe er alles aan om aan het geloof deugd toe te voegen, aan de deugd kennis, aan de kennis zelfbeheersing, aan de zelfbeheersing volharding, aan de volharding godsvrucht, aan de godsvrucht naastenliefde en aan de naastenliefde naastenliefde\u201d (2 Petrus 1:5-7).<\/span><\/p><p data-start=\"2389\" data-end=\"2608\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">We leven in een tijd die gekenmerkt wordt door een gebrek aan zelfbeheersing (2 Tim. 3:3).
