\u201cMaar de vrucht van de Geest is liefde, vreugde, vrede, geduld, vriendelijkheid, goedheid, trouw, zachtmoedigheid en zelfbeheersing. Tegen zulke dingen bestaat geen wet.\u201d
Galaten 5:22-23<\/strong><\/em><\/p>

Het woord 'goed' wordt tegenwoordig te vaak gebruikt in onze maatschappij. We gebruiken het om alles te beschrijven, van hoe we ons voelen tot wat voor soort persoon iemand is. De ware betekenis van het woord is echter anders. goedheid<\/em> Het heeft te maken met morele en spirituele uitmuntendheid die tot uiting komt in vriendelijkheid en actieve behulpzaamheid.<\/p>

Goedheid is meer dan alleen morele uitmuntendheid. Romeinen 5:7 helpt ons dit te begrijpen: "Want nauwelijks zal iemand sterven voor een rechtvaardige, maar misschien zou iemand zelfs durven sterven voor een goed mens." Een christen kan moreel rechtschapen zijn en toch dit aspect van goedheid, dat gekenmerkt wordt door zelfopofferende zorg voor anderen, niet tonen.<\/p>

In Matte\u00fcs 1:19 lezen we: "Toen besloot Jozef, haar man, haar in het geheim te verstoten, omdat hij een rechtvaardig man was en haar niet in het openbaar te schande wilde maken." Jozef ging ervan uit dat Maria ontrouw was geweest, en omdat hij een "rechtvaardig" man was, vond hij dat hij niet met haar kon trouwen. Hij was echter ook een goed mens en wilde haar daarom liever in het geheim verstoten dan haar in het openbaar te schande te maken.<\/p>

Het is belangrijk om te beseffen dat goedheid een andere eigenschap van God zelf is. Hij is "overvloedig in goedheid en waarheid" (Exodus 34:6-7). Psalm 100:5 verklaart: "Want de HEERE is goed, Zijn barmhartigheid duurt eeuwig en Zijn trouw is van generatie op generatie."\u201c<\/p>

Telkens wanneer het woord Goed<\/em> Wanneer het over God gaat, verwijst het naar het feit dat Hij intrinsiek goed is. Goedheid is niet slechts iets wat God doet \u2013 het is wie Hij is. Daarom antwoordde de Heer Jezus, toen de rijke jongeman naar Hem toe kwam en vroeg: "Goede Meester, wat moet ik doen om het eeuwige leven te verkrijgen?", "Waarom noem je Mij goed? Niemand is goed behalve God" (Marcus 10:17-18). De Heer Jezus maakte hiermee duidelijk dat alleen God inherent en intrinsiek goed is. Maar elders noemt de Heer Jezus Zichzelf "de Goede Herder" (Johannes 10:11). Als Zoon van God is Hij inderdaad goed.<\/p>

De Heilige Geest verlangt ernaar deze eigenschap van Christus in ieder van ons te ontwikkelen. We worden aangespoord om te zoeken naar mogelijkheden om goed te doen (Galaten 6:10). Dit kan alleen bereikt worden door de kracht van de Geest van God, zoals Paulus bad voor de gelovigen in Thessalonica: \u201cWij bidden ook voortdurend voor u, dat onze God u waardig acht voor deze roeping en dat Hij al het goede dat Hij in Zijn goedheid wil bewerkstelligen, volbrengt, en dat het werk van het geloof krachtig geschiedt, zodat de naam van onze Heer Jezus Christus in u verheerlijkt wordt en u in Hem, overeenkomstig de genade van onze God en de Heer Jezus Christus\u201d (2 Thess. 1:11-12).<\/span><\/p>
