Toen stond Eliasib, de hogepriester, op met zijn broeders, de priesters, en bouwde de Schaapspoort; ze wijdden hem in en hingen de deuren eraan. Ze bouwden tot aan de Toren van de Honderd en wijdden die in, en vervolgens tot aan de Toren van Hananel. Naast Eliasib bouwden de mannen van Jericho. En naast hen bouwde Zaccur, de zoon van Imri.<\/em>
Nehemia 3:1-2<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/div>

Hoofdstuk 3 van Nehemia is een druk hoofdstuk; iedereen is betrokken bij de bouw van de muur. Een zin die ongeveer dertig keer wordt herhaald is "naast hem" en "na hem". Ze werken pal naast elkaar, iedereen draagt zijn steentje bij aan de bouw van de muur. Dit waren geen professionele bouwers of timmerlieden. Er waren mensen van allerlei beroepen. Er waren parfumeurs (Nehemia 3:8), goudsmeden (vv. 8, 31), tempeldienaren (v. 26), kooplieden (v. 32) en priesters. Veel leiders uit verschillende districten waren bij het werk betrokken (vv. 9-14).<\/p>

Dit herinnert ons eraan hoe belangrijk het is om samen te werken tot Gods eer. Het is een grote zegen om iemand naast je te hebben. Maar bovendien vervult het Gods hart met vreugde, die zegt: "Zie, hoe goed en hoe aangenaam is het wanneer broeders in eenheid samenwonen!" (Psalm 133:1).<\/p>

Paulus herinnert ons eraan dat Christus, als Hoofd van de Kerk, ieder van ons gaven heeft gegeven \u201ctot toerusting van de heiligen voor het werk van de bediening, tot opbouw van het lichaam van Christus, totdat wij allen tot de eenheid van het geloof en van de kennis van de Zoon van God komen, tot een volmaakte mens, tot de maat van de volheid van Christus; opdat wij niet langer kinderen zouden zijn, heen en weer geslingerd en meegevoerd door elke wind van leer\u201d (Efezi\u00ebrs 4:12-16).<\/p>
