Het gebed van Nehemia<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Toen ik deze woorden hoorde, ging ik zitten en huilde, en rouwde vele dagen; ik vastte en bad tot de God van de hemel. En ik zei: \u201cIk bid, Heer<\/span> God van de hemel, o grote en ontzagwekkende God, U die Uw verbond en barmhartigheid nakomt jegens hen die U liefhebben en Uw geboden in acht nemen.\u201d
Nehemia 1:4-5<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/div>

Het boek Nehemia is een voorbeeld van hoe de Heer een opwekking teweegbrengt door \u00e9\u00e9n man die het verschil kan maken. Maar het is niet \u00e9\u00e9n man die een protest leidt of zelfs maar het initiatief neemt. Deze opwekking begint met \u00e9\u00e9n man die op zijn knie\u00ebn voor zijn God knielt! Elke ware opwekking heeft drie kenmerken: gebed, het gezag van het Woord van God en een hernieuwd besef van Gods aanwezigheid!<\/div>

Ten eerste had Nehemia gehoord over de toestand. Hij was er snel bij om te luisteren en traag om te spreken (Jakobus 1:19). Zijn oren stonden open! Ten tweede ging hij zitten; hij probeerde het probleem niet op te lossen, maar was bereid om stil te zijn (Psalm 46:10). Ten derde huilde hij om de toestand van Gods volk. Hij zou niet de laatste zijn die over Jeruzalem zou huilen. In Lucas 19:41 huilde de Heer Jezus ook over de stad. Ten vierde treurde Nehemia, zich identificerend met het probleem. Ten vijfde zien we hem vasten, een beeld van zelfverloochening; het was geen alledaagse bezigheid voor deze man. Ten zesde deed Nehemia bidden! Hij wierp zijn zorgen op de Heer en was van Hem afhankelijk. De Schrift herinnert ons er nog steeds aan dat het vurige gebed van een rechtvaardige veel vermag (Jakobus 5:16).<\/p>

Wat een voorbeeld voor ons vandaag! Als de Heer een last op je hart heeft gelegd, probeer die dan niet te ontlopen of in eigen kracht te volbrengen! Deze opwekking begint met grote ellende, maar eindigt met grote vreugde (8:12, 17). Nehemia leidt geen opstand door protest; hij leidt een opwekking door gebed!<\/p>
