De Getrouwe Getuige<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Jezus Christus, de getrouwe getuige, de eerstgeborene uit de doden en de heerser over de koningen der aarde. Aan Hem die ons liefheeft en ons van onze zonden heeft gewassen in zijn eigen bloed, en ons tot koningen en priesters heeft gemaakt voor zijn God en Vader, aan Hem zij de heerlijkheid en de heerschappij tot in eeuwigheid. Amen.
Openbaring 1:5-6<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/div>

In de verzen van vandaag geeft Johannes ons redenen om de Heer Jezus te verheerlijken. De eerste reden is dat Hij de trouwe getuige is. Johannes gebruikt in het boek Openbaring minstens drie keer de uitdrukking 'trouw' in verband met de Heer Jezus (1:4-5; 3:14; 19:11). Hier is Hij de trouwe getuige. Er zijn hier vele getuigen geweest tot Gods eer, maar geen van hen was zonder gebreken. Slechts E\u00e9n was volmaakt, zonder vlek of smetje, en slechts E\u00e9n kon de trouwe getuige genoemd worden. Van de kribbe tot het kruis was Hij onwankelbaar in Zijn dienst. Op twaalfjarige leeftijd horen we Hem zeggen: "Wist u niet dat Ik bezig moest zijn met de zaken van Mijn Vader?" (Lucas 2:49). Deze trouwe getuige riep uit: "Mijn voedsel is de wil te doen van Hem die Mij gezonden heeft en Zijn werk te voltooien" (Johannes 4:34). Hij was de afhankelijke dienaar die 's morgens vroeg opstond om leiding van zijn Vader te ontvangen (Mk. 1:35). Als trouwe getuige verklaarde Hij: "Daarom ben Ik geboren en daarom ben Ik in de wereld gekomen, om van de waarheid te getuigen" (Joh. 18:37).<\/p>

Johannes gebruikt het woord 'getuige' minstens 72 keer in zijn geschriften, meestal met betrekking tot de Heer. In Openbaring 3:14 zien we Hem als de 'getrouwe en ware getuige', in tegenstelling tot een belijdende kerk die Zijn getuige had moeten zijn tot Zijn wederkomst (Handelingen 1:8); maar de kerk is er niet in geslaagd een ware getuige te zijn. In Openbaring 19:11 wordt Hij gezien als de 'getrouwe en ware' die rechtvaardig zal oordelen!<\/p>

Johannes begint de Heer Jezus te verheerlijken door ons eraan te herinneren dat Christus, toen Hij hier was, een trouwe getuige was van de heerlijkheid van God!<\/p>
