Omdat zo&#039;n smeulende lont nutteloos was, werd hij gedoofd en weggegooid. De rokende vlaspit symboliseert mensen wier leven uitgeput is; er komt meer rook dan licht van hen af. Hun getuigenis is krachteloos geworden. Misschien voel je je wel als een rokende vlaspit. Is jouw licht gedoofd tot het alleen nog maar rookt, bijna helemaal uit? Ben je ontmoedigd omdat je licht niet meer helder schijnt?<\/p><p>Onze mislukkingen hoeven nooit definitief te zijn! Johannes Marcus brandde op een gegeven moment fel, maar begon te doven. Hij verliet Paulus en Barnabas tijdens hun eerste zendingsreis en keerde terug naar huis (Handelingen 13:13). Maar later kon Paulus schrijven dat Marcus hem van nut was geweest voor de bediening (2 Timote\u00fcs 4:11). Ergens onderweg werd de lamp van Johannes Marcus bijgesneden, misschien door Barnabas. De Heer had medelijden met een &quot;rokende vlaspit&quot; genaamd Petrus (Matte\u00fcs 26:69-75). De Heer had medelijden met een &quot;rokende vlaspit&quot; genaamd Jona en gebruikte hem om een opwekking te brengen in een grote stad (Jona 1-4). Hoe vaak hebben wij ons licht bijna zien doven? Hoe vaak zijn we alleen maar rook geweest en geen licht, met ons geloof en ons getuigenis die gaandeweg in het leven vervaagd zijn? Het zou voor de Heer gemakkelijk zijn geweest om onze zwakke vlam te doven en ons simpelweg uit te blussen, maar Hij is altijd bereid ons te vergeven, ons te herstellen en ons opnieuw aan te wakkeren wanneer we Hem aanroepen en onze zonden belijden (1 Johannes 1:9).<\/p><p>Hij zal een smeulend vlaspitje nooit doven, maar het juist aanwakkeren tot een vlam. Het woord <em>afkoeling<\/em> Het betekent &quot;uitdoven of doven&quot;. De Heer dooft die smeulende lont niet. Hij maakt er geen einde aan zonder er aandacht aan te besteden. In plaats daarvan komt Hij om de zwakke vlam bij te snijden en opnieuw aan te wakkeren.
