Nahum wordt door de Heer geroepen om oordeel te profeteren over precies die mensen die zich bekeerden toen Jona met tegenzin tot hen predikte. Maar de tijd was verstreken en de inwoners van Ninev\u00e9 waren teruggevallen in hun zondige gewoonten. In het eerste hoofdstuk lezen we over de aankondiging van het oordeel, in hoofdstuk 2 over de macht van het oordeel en in hoofdstuk 3 over de onomkeerbaarheid ervan. Drie hoofdstukken vol oordeel, allemaal in dit boek!<\/p><p>Maar ons vers springt eruit als een vuurtoren die hoop uitstraalt in de donkere nacht voor iedereen die voorbijkomt! In dit ene vers zien we drie dingen. Ten eerste lezen we over de goedheid van God. Dit is misschien niet wat wij zouden benadrukken; we zouden misschien hebben gezegd: de Heer is heilig of de Heer is groot, maar Nahum verkondigt de goedheid van de Heer! De Heer is intrinsiek, ethisch, moreel en praktisch goed. De psalmist herinnert ons eraan dat de Heer goed is en goed doet (Psalm 119:68). Deze goedheid van God werd gedurende het hele leven van de Heer Jezus getoond, toen Hij rondging en allerlei goede dingen deed (Handelingen 10:38).<\/p><p>De tweede en derde punten van Nahums boodschap zijn duidelijk. De Heer is in staat hen die zich tot Hem wenden te redden van het strenge oordeel dat spoedig over Ninev\u00e9 zou komen. Nahum kon zelfs tijdens het oordeel verkondigen dat de Heer goed is, omdat Hij een sterke toren is voor allen die op Hem vertrouwen.<\/p><p>Net zoals het oordeel over Ninev\u00e9 kwam, zo komt het ook over de hele mensheid. Vandaag de dag is er een vuurtoren die het evangelie van Gods genade uitstraalt en luid verkondigt: &quot;God houdt van jou!&quot; Hij heeft een weg tot redding geboden aan het kruis van Jezus Christus. Allen die tot Hem komen en hun zonden belijden, zullen gered worden!
