What Is God Like?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

\u201cEven the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.\u201d
<\/em>Isaiah 40:30-31<\/strong><\/p>

However, what often happens to us is that we know little about our God, and even what we do know, we tend to isolate based on our circumstances. We may understand that God is love<\/em>, but when something bad happens\u2014because we live in a world broken by sin\u2014we begin to question. We might think that God has abandoned us or ask why He allowed a tragedy, or why He didn\u2019t prevent a painful event from happening.<\/p>

I believe there are more attributes of God than we could ever count\u2014because God is infinite! But one particular passage has always been very meaningful to me, as it beautifully highlights many of God\u2019s precious attributes. It answers the question: \u201cWhat is God like?\u201d<\/em><\/p>

We all know the familiar promise in Isaiah 40:30\u201331. <\/em>But we understand who our God is by looking at the verses that precede this powerful promise. Here\u2019s what we learn:<\/p>

He is Self-Sufficient<\/strong> (Isaiah 40:12\u201314<\/em>) He stands alone and needs no help, no direction, no counsel, and no instruction.
He is Omnipotent (All-Powerful)<\/strong> (Isaiah 40:12<\/em>) He holds all power in His hand.
He is Omniscient (All-Knowing)<\/strong> (Isaiah 40:13\u201314, 28<\/em>) See also Romans 4:17; 11:33\u201336; Isaiah 42:9; 46:10; Acts 15:18<\/em>.
He is Righteous and Just<\/strong> (Isaiah 40:14<\/em>) He always does what is right. See Genesis 18:25; Hebrews 9:7\u20138; Psalm 119:137\u2013138; 145:17<\/em>.
He is All-Wise<\/strong> (Isaiah 40:14<\/em>) All wisdom begins and ends with Him. See Romans 11:33; 1 Timothy 1:17; Psalm 104:24; Proverbs 3:19<\/em>.
He is Sovereign<\/strong> (Isaiah 40:15\u201317) <\/em>Everything is under His control, and nothing takes Him by surprise. See 1 Samuel 2:6\u20138; 1 Chronicles 29:11\u201312; Ephesians 1:11<\/em>.
He is Incomparable<\/strong> (Isaiah 40:18<\/em>) There is no one like Him. See Colossians 1; Hebrews 1; Ephesians 1<\/em>.
He is Transcendent<\/strong> (Isaiah 40:22\u201324<\/em>) He is far above everything and everyone else\u2014beyond all limits.
He is Eternal<\/strong> (Isaiah 40:26\u201328<\/em>) He always has been and always will be in control. See Isaiah 57:15; Psalm 147:3\u20134<\/em>.
He is Holy<\/strong> (Isaiah 40:25<\/em>) He is completely pure. See Isaiah 6:1\u20134; Psalm 30:4; 47:8; 111:9<\/em>.
He is Infinite<\/strong> (Isaiah 40:26<\/em>) He has no limits. See Psalm 47:5; Job 5:9; 9:10<\/em>.
He is Omnipresent (Everywhere)<\/strong> (Isaiah 40:27<\/em>) See Psalm 139:7\u201312; Proverbs 15:3; Jeremiah 23:23\u201324; Matthew 28:20<\/em>.
He is Immutable (Unchanging)<\/strong> (Isaiah 40:28<\/em>) See Malachi 3:6; Hebrews 13:8<\/em>.
He is Long-suffering<\/strong> (Isaiah 40:28<\/em>) He is patient and never grows weary. See Exodus 34:6; Psalm 86:15; 2 Peter 3:9, 15<\/em>.
He is Faithful<\/strong> (Isaiah 40:29<\/em>) He is always trustworthy, dependable, and can be counted on. See Lamentations 3:23; 2 Corinthians 12:9; 1 Corinthians 1:7, 9; 10:13; 1 Thessalonians 5:23\u201324; 2 Timothy 2:13; 1 John 1:9; Ephesians 3:16\u201318<\/em>.<\/p>
