De Weg. De Waarheid. Het Leven.<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\u201cIk ben de Weg, de Waarheid en het Leven. Niemand komt tot de Vader dan door Mij.\u201d<\/em>
Johannes 14:6<\/em><\/strong><\/p>

Deze uitspraak is een van de zeven 'Ik ben'-uitspraken van Jezus. In de nacht voordat de Heer Jezus naar Golgotha ging, bereidde Hij Zijn discipelen voor op de komende dagen. Deze mannen hadden Hem al meer dan drie jaar gevolgd en van Zijn onderwijs en voorbeeld geleerd. Ze hadden hun hoop op Hem gevestigd als de Messias, de beloofde Verlosser, maar ze begrepen nog steeds niet hoe Hij die verlossing zou bewerkstelligen.<\/p>

Na de Pesachmaaltijd begon de Heer te spreken over Zijn heengaan, wat leidde tot vragen van Zijn discipelen. Johannes 13:33<\/em>, Jezus zei:<\/p>

\u201cKindertjes, Ik zal nog een korte tijd bij jullie zijn. Jullie zullen Mij zoeken; en zoals Ik tegen de Joden zei: \u2018Waarheen Ik ga, daar kunnen jullie niet komen,\u2019 zo zeg Ik nu ook tegen jullie.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>

Dit bracht Petrus ertoe te vragen waar Hij heen ging (Johannes 13:36<\/em>Petrus en de anderen begrepen niet dat Jezus sprak over zijn dood en hemelvaart. Jezus antwoordde:, \u201cWaar ik nu heen ga, kun je me nog niet volgen, maar later wel.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

Petrus is de eerste van de vier discipelen die vragen stelt naar aanleiding van Jezus' uitspraak in vers 33: Peter<\/strong> (13:36\u201314:4<\/em>); Thomas<\/strong> (14:5\u20137<\/em>); Filip<\/strong> (14:7\u201321<\/em>); Judas<\/strong> (niet Iscariot)14:22\u201331<\/em>);<\/p>

Het is interessant om op te merken dat een onderdeel van de Pesach-traditie een moment inhield waarop vragen gesteld konden worden (Exodus 12:26-27<\/em>(Nog steeds in een misverstand) verklaarde Petrus dat hij de Heer overal zou volgen, zelfs tot het punt dat hij zijn leven zou geven. De discipelen waren duidelijk verontrust en bedroefd in hun hart.Johannes 14:1, 27; 16:6, 20-22<\/em>), waardoor we inzicht krijgen in de sombere en serieuze sfeer in de bovenkamer.<\/p>

In zijn antwoord geeft de Heer Jezus een drievoudig antwoord om zijn discipelen te troosten en te onderwijzen:<\/p>

Het object van ons geloof \u2013 Zijn persoon: <\/strong>\u201cJullie geloven in God, geloof ook in Mij.\u201d<\/em> (<\/span>Johannes 14:1<\/em>)<\/span><\/p>

De belofte van een hemels thuis: <\/strong>\u201cIn het huis van mijn Vader zijn vele woningen\u2026\u201d<\/em> (<\/span>Johannes 14:2<\/em>)<\/span><\/p>

Het vooruitzicht op zijn terugkeer: <\/strong>\u201cIk zal terugkomen en jullie tot Mij nemen\u2026\u201d<\/em> (<\/span>Johannes 14:3<\/em>)<\/span><\/p>

Toen zei de Heer:, \u201cEn waar ik heen ga, weet je, en de weg die ik bewandel, weet je.\u201d<\/em> (Johannes 14:4<\/em>Namens de anderen antwoordde Thomas dat zij niet wisten waar Hij heen ging en daarom de weg niet konden kennen.<\/p>

Als antwoord gaf Jezus de zesde van zijn zeven "Ik ben"-uitspraken:<\/p>

\u201cIk ben de Weg, de Waarheid en het Leven. Niemand komt tot de Vader dan door Mij.\u201d<\/em> (Johannes 14:6<\/em>)<\/p><\/blockquote>
