Sometimes we even joke, <em data-start=\"255\" data-end=\"309\">\u201cBe patient with me\u2014God\u2019s not finished with me yet!\u201d<\/em> But while we want others to be patient with us, we\u2019re not always willing to extend that same patience to them.<\/p><p data-start=\"422\" data-end=\"603\">However, if we are filled with the Holy Spirit, patience\u2014or long-suffering\u2014will be one of the fruits of that Spirit (<em data-start=\"547\" data-end=\"563\">Galatians 5:22<\/em>). We are exhorted in <em data-start=\"585\" data-end=\"602\">Ephesians 4:2\u20133<\/em>:<\/p><blockquote data-start=\"605\" data-end=\"766\"><p data-start=\"607\" data-end=\"766\"><em data-start=\"607\" data-end=\"766\">\u201cWith all lowliness and gentleness, with long-suffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote><p data-start=\"768\" data-end=\"1016\">If we are motivated by the love that God has poured into our hearts, then that love should be displayed in our relationships. Two of the traits mentioned in the &#8220;love chapter&#8221; (<em data-start=\"945\" data-end=\"963\">1 Corinthians 13<\/em>) are: <em data-start=\"970\" data-end=\"989\">\u201cLove is patient\u201d<\/em> and <em data-start=\"994\" data-end=\"1016\">\u201cLove suffers long.\u201d<\/em><\/p><p data-start=\"1018\" data-end=\"1216\">Paul understood how vital this was. In <em data-start=\"1057\" data-end=\"1076\">Colossians 1:9\u201311<\/em>, he prays that believers would be strengthened for <em data-start=\"1128\" data-end=\"1173\">\u201call patience and long-suffering with joy.\u201d<\/em> Later, in <em data-start=\"1184\" data-end=\"1204\">Colossians 3:12\u201313<\/em>, he writes:<\/p><blockquote data-start=\"1218\" data-end=\"1444\"><p data-start=\"1220\" data-end=\"1444\"><em data-start=\"1220\" data-end=\"1444\">\u201cTherefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, long-suffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another\u2026 even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote><p data-start=\"1474\" data-end=\"1719\">Maybe one reason we see so many broken homes, fractured assemblies, and strained relationships is that we\u2019ve lost sight of just how patient the God of patience really is.
