I Have Overcome The World<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

\u201cThese things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.\u201d
\u202d\u202dJohn\u202c \u202d16\u202c:\u202d33\u202c<\/strong><\/p>

Here, He is speaking to all who seek to follow Him: \u201cTake courage! Be strong! I have overcome the world!\u201d<\/em> He was looking beyond all that lay ahead of Him and declaring the victory that would soon be His. He is the great Overcomer!<\/p>

The word overcome is the root from which we get the word NIKE, meaning victory. It appears about twenty-eight times in sixteen different forms, across twenty-four verses in the New Testament.<\/p>

Christ overcame the world during His life. In His death, He bound the strong man and took the spoils (Luke 11:22). In His resurrection, His ascension, and His exaltation, Christ secured the victory: \u201cGod has made this same Jesus both Lord and Christ\u201d<\/em> (Acts 2:36).<\/p>

He has overcome this world system that stands in opposition to God. He is the great Victor! The Cross marked the defeat of the ruler of this world. Romans 3:4<\/em> speaks of the legal victory accomplished by God, while Romans 12:21<\/em> speaks of the moral victory that is lived out in our lives.<\/p>

Consider the following cross-references that further explain this truth:<\/p>

  • John 12:31 \u2014 \u201cNow is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.\u201d<\/em> (see also John 14:30; 16:11)<\/p><\/li>

  • Genesis 3:15 \u2014 \u201cAnd I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/li>

  • Colossians 2:15 \u2014 \u201cHaving disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/li>

  • Hebrews 2:14 \u2014 \u201cInasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/li>

  • 1 John 3:8 \u2014 \u201cFor this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/li><\/ul>

    The Lord Jesus has overcome sin, unbelief, death, the gates of Hades, everything that would discourage us, everything that would deflate us, and everything that would oppose the gospel. He has overcome all things!<\/p>

    We are brought to share in this victory.<\/p>

    Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 15:57<\/em>: \u201cBut thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

    And again in 2 Corinthians 2:14\u201315<\/em>: \u201cNow thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

    Finally, Paul assures us in Romans 8:37<\/em> that every believer is \u201cmore than conquerors through Him who loved us.\u201d<\/p>
