You and I cannot grow as Christians without being in this Book and without this Book being in us.<\/p><p data-start=\"438\" data-end=\"697\">Job declared, <em data-start=\"452\" data-end=\"577\">\u201cI have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food\u201d<\/em> (Job 23:12). The psalmist said, <em data-start=\"610\" data-end=\"683\">\u201cYour word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You\u201d<\/em> (Ps. 119:11).<\/p><p data-start=\"699\" data-end=\"783\">Our attitude toward this Book will determine the spiritual growth of each one of us.<\/p><p data-start=\"785\" data-end=\"1208\">William Tyndale gave his very life for this Book when he was burned at the stake for holding to the truth found in the Bible. He died at the age of only forty-two on October 6, 1536. His last words were partially a quotation from Psalm 119:18\u2014<em data-start=\"1028\" data-end=\"1090\">\u201cOpen my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law\u201d<\/em>\u2014except that Tyndale prayed, <em data-start=\"1119\" data-end=\"1208\">\u201cOpen the King of England\u2019s eyes, that he might see the wondrous things from Your law.\u201d<\/em><\/p><p data-start=\"1210\" data-end=\"1475\">His prayer was answered two years later when King Henry VIII ordered that the Bible translated by Miles Coverdale be used in every parish in England. The Coverdale Bible was largely based on the work of William Tyndale, and in 1539, the Tyndale Bible was published.<\/p><p data-start=\"1477\" data-end=\"1515\">What is our attitude toward the Bible?<\/p><p data-start=\"1517\" data-end=\"1874\">The psalmist said, <em data-start=\"1536\" data-end=\"1593\">\u201cYour word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path\u201d<\/em> (Ps. 119:105). In Psalm 19, we see firsthand what David\u2019s attitude toward the Word of God was. Read through that Psalm and notice that there are six titles of the Word of God, six descriptions of what it is, and six effects of what it does. It is helpful to see how the psalmist lays these truths out for us.<\/p><p data-start=\"2632\" data-end=\"2826\">We need to have the same attitude toward Scripture that Jeremiah had.
