Het grootste cadeau<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Want God heeft de wereld zo liefgehad dat Hij Zijn eniggeboren Zoon heeft gegeven, opdat ieder die in Hem gelooft, niet verloren gaat, maar eeuwig leven heeft.
Johannes 3:16<\/strong>
<\/em><\/p>

In deze tijd van het jaar zijn winkelcentra drukbezocht door mensen die cadeaus kopen voor hun geliefden. Te midden van alle drukte is het goed om even stil te staan bij het meest bijzondere geschenk van allemaal \u2013 een geschenk dat niet gekocht is, maar vrijelijk gegeven en met ons gedeeld: het geschenk van Gods geliefde Zoon. Paulus verklaart:, \u201cGod zij dank voor Zijn onbeschrijflijke gave!\u201d<\/em> (2 Korinti\u00ebrs 9:15).<\/p>

Even stilstaan bij dit prachtige geschenk kan ons helpen om het perspectief in ons dagelijks leven terug te vinden. Het is goed om deze woorden in gedachten te houden:
\u201cWat zullen we dan zeggen van deze dingen? Als God voor ons is, wie kan dan tegen ons zijn? Hij die zijn eigen Zoon niet gespaard heeft, maar Hem voor ons allen heeft overgeleverd, hoe zal Hij ons dan niet met Hem ook alles schenken?\u201d<\/em> (Romeinen 8:31-32).<\/p>

Als God in onze grootste behoefte \u2013 de redding \u2013 heeft voorzien door de gave van Zijn Zoon, zal Hij dan niet ook in al onze andere behoeften voorzien? Natuurlijk wel! Maar net als bij onze redding moeten we Hem vertrouwen. De viering van de geboorte van onze Verlosser is een nieuwe herinnering om te vertrouwen op onze liefdevolle Vader, die Zijn Zoon zond om Zijn leven als losgeld voor ons aan het kruis te geven. Diezelfde Zoon zit nu aan de rechterhand van de Vader als onze Priester en liefdevolle Verlosser, en op een dag zal Hij geopenbaard worden als de Koning der koningen en Heer der heren.<\/p>

Door over dit geschenk na te denken, kunnen we in een donkere en verwarrende wereld dagelijks trouw leven. Paulus verwoordt het prachtig:
\u201cWant de genade van God, die redding brengt, is aan alle mensen verschenen en leert ons dat wij, door goddeloosheid en wereldse begeerten te verloochenen, in deze tijd sober, rechtvaardig en godvruchtig moeten leven, in afwachting van de gezegende hoop en de heerlijke verschijning van onze grote God en Heiland Jezus Christus, die Zichzelf voor ons heeft gegeven, opdat Hij ons zou verlossen van elke wetteloze daad en voor Zichzelf een eigen volk zou uitkiezen, ijverig in goede werken.\u201d<\/em> (Titus 2:11-14).<\/p>

Dankzij dit geschenk kunnen we vandaag leven met hoop voor morgen \u2013 een hoop die ons wijst op de wederkomst van Hem die eerst als baby in een kribbe kwam, en die zal terugkeren, niet in nederigheid, maar in glorie als de overwinnende Koning.<\/p>
