Het betekent &quot;datgene onthullen wat verborgen of geheim was&quot; of &quot;bekendmaken wat voorheen onbekend was&quot;. Johannes gebruikt dit woord minstens vier keer in verband met de incarnatie van de Heer Jezus Christus.<\/p><p data-start=\"574\" data-end=\"894\">Uit dit vers begrijpen we dat toen de Heer Jezus Christus mens werd, het eeuwige leven \u2013 dat bij de Vader is \u2013 werd geopenbaard. We zouden hier eens bij stil moeten staan en over deze waarheid moeten mediteren. Terwijl we dit geopenbaarde eeuwige leven overwegen, moeten we ons de vraag stellen: <em data-start=\"827\" data-end=\"833\">Waarom?<\/em> Waarom kwam Jezus naar deze wereld om het eeuwige leven te openbaren?<\/p><p data-start=\"896\" data-end=\"944\">Het antwoord is simpel: omdat het nodig was.<\/p><p data-start=\"946\" data-end=\"1480\">In Matte\u00fcs 4:16 citeerde de Heer Jezus Jesaja 9:2 en zei:, <em data-start=\"1005\" data-end=\"1139\">\u201cDe mensen die in de duisternis zaten, hebben een groot licht gezien; en voor hen die in het gebied en de schaduw des doods verkeerden, is het licht opgegaan.\u201d<\/em> Jesaja schreef oorspronkelijk:, <em data-start=\"1165\" data-end=\"1203\">\u201cHet volk dat in de duisternis wandelde.\u201d<\/em> Hier is geen sprake van tegenspraak. De Heer Jezus benadrukte onze positie \u2013 wij <em data-start=\"1278\" data-end=\"1283\">zat<\/em> in de duisternis \u2013 terwijl Jesaja onze praktijk of ons gedrag benadrukte \u2013 wij <em data-start=\"1347\" data-end=\"1355\">liep<\/em> In het duister. We zijn zondaren, zowel van nature als door onze daden, en vanwege onze verloren toestand verkeerden we in volkomen duisternis.<\/p><p data-start=\"1482\" data-end=\"1840\">Deze duisternis wordt ge\u00efllustreerd in de negende plaag van Exodus 10:21, waar we lezen dat de duisternis die God over het land Egypte zond zo dik was dat men die kon voelen. Dit dient als een beeld van de mensheid die verloren is in de zonde. Satan wordt beschreven als de heerser van de duisternis (Efezi\u00ebrs 6:12), en de hel wordt beschreven als een plaats van uiterlijke duisternis (Matte\u00fcs 8:12; 22:13; 25:30).<\/p><p data-start=\"1842\" data-end=\"2128\">De Schrift herinnert ons eraan dat <em data-start=\"1868\" data-end=\"1917\">\u201cGod is licht en in Hem is geen duisternis.\u201d<\/em> (1 Johannes 1:5). Toen de Heer Jezus in de wereld kwam, lezen we, <em data-start=\"1982\" data-end=\"2114\">\u201cIn Hem was leven, en dat leven was het licht der mensen. En dat licht schijnt in de duisternis, en de duisternis heeft het niet begrepen.\u201d<\/em> (Johannes 1:4-5).<\/p><p data-start=\"2130\" data-end=\"2443\">Toen de Heer Jezus in de tijd trad, werd het leven van God geopenbaard. Zoals Johannes later verklaart:, <em data-start=\"2225\" data-end=\"2428\">\u201cWij weten dat de Zoon van God gekomen is en ons inzicht heeft gegeven, zodat wij Hem die waarachtig is, kunnen kennen; en wij zijn in Hem die waarachtig is, in Zijn Zoon Jezus Christus. Dit is de ware God en het eeuwige leven.\u201d<\/em> (1 Johannes 5:20).<\/p><p data-start=\"2445\" data-end=\"2686\"><strong>Ankerpunt voor vandaag:<\/strong><br \/>Het onzichtbare werd zichtbaar. De ongenaakbare God kwam tot ons toen het eeuwige leven in Christus werd geopenbaard.
