In this section of 1 Timothy, Paul is speaking about the grace of God. He has already highlighted the greatness of God\u2019s grace in verses 12\u201313 for placing him into ministry, even though he had persecuted the church as a blasphemer and an insolent man. He then proclaims in verse 14, <em data-start=\"676\" data-end=\"778\">\u201cAnd the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, with faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.\u201d<\/em><\/p><p data-start=\"780\" data-end=\"1231\">The grace of God had gripped Paul\u2019s heart and life, and now he can say, <em data-start=\"852\" data-end=\"986\">\u201cThis is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.\u201d<\/em> The phrase <em data-start=\"998\" data-end=\"1046\">\u201cfaithful saying and worthy of all acceptance\u201d<\/em> is unique to the Pastoral Epistles and appears five times (1 Timothy 1:15; 3:1; 4:9; 2 Timothy 2:11; Titus 3:8). Paul used this expression to emphasize the importance of key doctrines.<\/p><p data-start=\"1233\" data-end=\"1806\">Here, Paul sets before us Christ Jesus\u2014<em data-start=\"1276\" data-end=\"1284\">Christ<\/em>, the Anointed One, and <em data-start=\"1308\" data-end=\"1315\">Jesus<\/em>, His human name\u2014given because He came <em data-start=\"1354\" data-end=\"1392\">\u201cto save His people from their sins\u201d<\/em> (Matthew 1:21). The fact that He <em data-start=\"1426\" data-end=\"1432\">came<\/em> means that He existed before He came. As the eternal Son of God, Christ entered the world (John 1:9; 3:19; 6:14; 11:27; 12:46; 16:28; 18:37). John repeatedly emphasizes in his Gospel that Jesus came down from heaven. This is the grace of God that brings salvation and has appeared to all people (Titus 2:11). Paul declares that this truth is worthy of universal acceptance.<\/p><p data-start=\"1808\" data-end=\"2354\">In Luke 19:10, the Lord Jesus said, <em data-start=\"1844\" data-end=\"1916\">\u201cFor the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.\u201d<\/em> In Matthew 9:13, He said, <em data-start=\"1943\" data-end=\"1998\">\u201cI have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.\u201d<\/em> In John 12:46, our Lord declared, <em data-start=\"2033\" data-end=\"2075\">\u201cI have come as a light into the world.\u201d<\/em> In John 3:16\u201317 we read, <em data-start=\"2101\" data-end=\"2354\">\u201cFor God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.\u201d<\/em><\/p><p data-start=\"2356\" data-end=\"2744\">The Bible tells us that <em data-start=\"2380\" data-end=\"2435\">\u201call have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,\u201d<\/em> and Christ came into the world to save sinners. The grace of God is powerful enough to redeem us from the slave market of sin and to <em data-start=\"2569\" data-end=\"2593\">\u201cmake all things new,\u201d<\/em> making us new creations in Christ Jesus.
