For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.\u2019\u201d<br \/><\/em><strong><em>Luke 2:10\u201311<\/em><\/strong><\/p><p data-start=\"425\" data-end=\"598\">There is one more aspect of the angel\u2019s message of good news that we want to focus on. The angel announced that the Savior born in the city of David is <em data-start=\"577\" data-end=\"597\">\u201cChrist the Lord.\u201d<\/em><\/p><p data-start=\"600\" data-end=\"964\">\u201cChrist\u201d comes from the Greek word <em data-start=\"635\" data-end=\"646\">Christos,<\/em> meaning \u201canointed one\u201d or \u201cchosen one.\u201d This is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew word <em data-start=\"735\" data-end=\"746\">Mashiach,<\/em> or Messiah. <em data-start=\"759\" data-end=\"766\">Jesus<\/em> is our Lord\u2019s given name as a man, revealed to Mary by the angel (Luke 1:31). <em data-start=\"845\" data-end=\"853\">Christ<\/em> is His title, signifying that He was sent from God to be a King and Deliverer (Isa. 32:1; 61:1; Dan. 9:25\u201326).<\/p><p data-start=\"966\" data-end=\"1496\">The angel went on to declare that He is <em data-start=\"1006\" data-end=\"1026\">\u201cChrist the Lord.\u201d<\/em> While <em data-start=\"1033\" data-end=\"1039\">lord<\/em> was often used as a term of respect in that day, when applied to the Lord Jesus it carries a far greater meaning. In Acts 2:36, after Jesus\u2019 death, burial, and resurrection, Peter proclaimed, <em data-start=\"1232\" data-end=\"1360\">\u201cTherefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.\u201d<\/em> But what we learn from the announcement to the shepherds is that even while lying in a manger, Jesus is Lord! His Lordship is eternal.<\/p><p data-start=\"1498\" data-end=\"1687\">The prophet Isaiah saw the <em data-start=\"1525\" data-end=\"1553\">\u201cLord\u2026 high and lifted up\u201d<\/em> (Isa. 6:1), and John refers to this event in John 12:41, saying, <em data-start=\"1619\" data-end=\"1687\">\u201cThese things Isaiah said when he saw His glory and spoke of Him.\u201d<\/em><\/p><p data-start=\"1689\" data-end=\"2220\">The Lord Jesus is Lord over creation, demonstrated when He calmed the storm\u2014the winds and waves knew exactly whose voice they were obeying. He is Lord over history as the <em data-start=\"1860\" data-end=\"1930\">\u201cAlpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last\u201d<\/em> (Rev. 22:13). He is Lord in the realm of death, resurrection, and glory (Phil. 2:9\u201311). He has <em data-start=\"2026\" data-end=\"2066\">\u201call authority in heaven and on earth\u201d<\/em> (Matt. 28:18). He is Lord of the Sabbath (Luke 6:5). He is <em data-start=\"2126\" data-end=\"2157\">\u201cour only Sovereign and Lord\u201d<\/em> (Jude 1:4). He is, in fact, the <em data-start=\"2190\" data-end=\"2205\">Lord of lords<\/em> (Rev. 17:14).<\/p><p data-start=\"2222\" data-end=\"2287\">But how amazing it is that we see His Lordship even at His birth!<\/p><p data-start=\"2289\" data-end=\"2413\">Jesus is Lord. But the question each of us must ask is: <em data-start=\"2349\" data-end=\"2367\">\u201cIs He my Lord?\u201d<\/em> Am I surrendered to His Lordship in my life?<\/p><p data-start=\"2415\" data-end=\"2670\">Romans 10:9\u201310 declares, <em data-start=\"2440\" data-end=\"2670\">\u201cIf you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
