Velen van ons herinneren zich misschien het refrein, maar het hele lied is zeer bemoedigend en uitdagend. Het werd geschreven door Johnson Oatman Jr. in 1897 en is gebaseerd op 1 Thessalonicenzen 5:18., <em data-start=\"350\" data-end=\"433\">\u201cWees dankbaar voor alles, want dit is de wil van God in Christus Jezus voor jullie.\u201d<\/em> Iemand zei ooit van <em data-start=\"455\" data-end=\"477\">Tel je zegeningen.<\/em>, \u201cHet is als een zonnestraal die de donkere plekken op aarde verlicht.\u201d In de beginperiode was het vooral populair in Groot-Brittanni\u00eb, waar men zei:, <em data-start=\"637\" data-end=\"733\">\u201cDe mannen zingen het, de jongens fluiten het en de vrouwen wiegen hun baby\u2019s in slaap met dit lied.\u201d<\/em> Tijdens de opwekking in Wales was het een van de hymnen die bij elke dienst gezongen werden.<\/p><p data-start=\"811\" data-end=\"1299\">De prachtige aanmoediging om &quot;je zegeningen te tellen&quot; wordt vaak verkeerd begrepen. Het betekent niet dat je ontkent dat je problemen hebt. Het betekent niet dat je verontrustende emoties moet negeren. Het betekent niet: &quot;Vrolijk je op en doe alsof alles goed is.&quot; Die aanpak werkt niet en leidt ook niet tot blijvende vreugde en vrede. Het lied moedigt ons juist aan om openlijk te erkennen dat we &quot;door de storm geteisterd&quot; worden of &quot;belast zijn met een last van zorgen&quot;, en om die zorgen in gebed aan God voor te leggen.<\/p><p data-start=\"1301\" data-end=\"1727\">Wanneer we met onze problemen naar God gaan, beginnen we te zien dat we niet ontmoedigd hoeven te raken, want \u201cGod is boven alles\u201d. Onze zegeningen tellen betekent \u2013 stuk voor stuk \u2013 waarderen dat we \u201cin Christus alle geestelijke zegeningen\u201d hebben (Efezi\u00ebrs 1:3). Oprechte dank en lof aan God gaan hand in hand met het openlijk uitstorten van onze lasten voor de luisterende oren van de \u201cVader van barmhartigheid\u201d en de \u201cGod van alle troost\u201d (2 Korinti\u00ebrs 1:3-4).<\/p><p data-start=\"1301\" data-end=\"1727\"><strong>Ankerpunt voor vandaag:<\/strong><br \/>Neem de tijd om na te denken over de geweldige dingen die God heeft gedaan.
