Maar Martha was zo druk met het dienen, dat ze naar Hem toe kwam en zei: 'Heer, vindt U het dan niet erg dat mijn zus mij alleen laat dienen? Zeg haar daarom dat ze me moet helpen.' Jezus antwoordde haar: 'Martha, Martha, je maakt je zorgen en bent onrustig over veel dingen. Maar \u00e9\u00e9n ding is nodig, en Maria heeft het goede deel uitgekozen, dat zal haar niet worden afgenomen.'\u201c

<\/em><\/p>


Martha's ontmoeting met de Heer is zeer leerzaam voor ieder van ons. Zij is een prachtig voorbeeld van iemand die heeft geleerd hoe te dienen. We lezen over haar dienstbaarheid hier in onze passage, en vervolgens opnieuw in Johannes 11 en ook in Johannes 12.<\/p>

In Lucas 10 moest Martha leren \u2013 net als Maria al had geleerd \u2013 dat de Heer Jezus de Profeet is aan wiens voeten we moeten zitten en onderwijs moeten ontvangen. In Johannes 11 kwam ze met een gebroken hart naar de Heer Jezus vanwege de dood van haar broer Lazarus, en ervoer ze Zijn priesterlijke zorg toen Hij Zijn liefde toonde. Vervolgens zien we in Johannes 12 Martha dienen, Maria de Heer Jezus zalven en Lazarus bij Hem zitten \u2013 elk van hen geeft ons een beeld van het voorrecht en de positie van de volgeling van Christus vandaag de dag. We kunnen nu Hem aanbidden voor wie elke knie zal buigen als Koning der koningen en Heer der heren. Zo zien we in de levens van Martha en Maria onze Heer als Profeet, Priester en Koning.<\/p>

Maar wat vooral leerzaam is aan het vers van vandaag, is hoe we de Heer kunnen dienen. We kunnen Hem dienen zoals Martha hier deed \u2013 uit plicht \u2013 of we kunnen Hem dienen, zoals ze doet in Johannes 12, uit toewijding. Er wordt wel gezegd dat er dienstbaarheid bestaat: dienstbaarheid gericht op aantrekkingskracht, dienstbaarheid gericht op afleiding, dienstbaarheid gericht op actie en dienstbaarheid gericht op bevrediging.<\/p>

Wanneer we voor het eerst tot de Heer komen en Hem willen aanbidden door middel van onze dienstbaarheid, worden we aangetrokken door wie Hij is en wat Hij voor ons heeft gedaan. Maar soms raken we zo druk en in beslag genomen door onze dienstbaarheid dat we Degene die we dienen uit het oog verliezen. Wanneer we afgeleid zijn, wordt onze dienstbaarheid slechts een bezigheid \u2013 routine en beweging zonder toewijding.<\/p>

Maar de goed deel<\/em> Datgene wat je niet kunt verliezen, is Hem dienen uit toewijding. D\u00e1t is de dienst die werkelijk voldoening geeft.<\/p>

Wanneer dienstbaarheid louter dienstbaarheid is, wordt het een religieuze routine; maar wanneer dienstbaarheid voortvloeit uit een levendige en oprechte relatie met de Heer, wordt het aanbidding. Martha begreep dit \u2013 en bracht het prachtig tot uiting in Johannes 12.<\/p>

Wat is de drijfveer achter uw dienstbaarheid aan de Heer vandaag?
