Toen brachten de schriftgeleerden en Farizee\u00ebn een vrouw die op overspel betrapt was bij Hem. En toen ze haar in het midden hadden gezet, zeiden ze tegen Hem: 'Meester, deze vrouw is op heterdaad betrapt op overspel. Mozes heeft ons in de wet geboden dat zulke vrouwen gestenigd moeten worden. Maar wat zegt U daarvan?'\u201c

<\/em><\/p>


Deze ontmoeting met de vrouw die op heterdaad betrapt werd op overspel, beslaat de eerste elf verzen van Johannes 8. Het is het begin van een hoofdstuk vol contrasten en conflicten: genade en wet (vv. 1-11), licht en duisternis (vv. 12-20), leven en dood (vv. 21-30), vrijheid en slavernij (vv. 31-47), eer en oneer (vv. 48-59). Maar het opent met een directe en levensveranderende ontmoeting van deze vrouw met de Heer Jezus.<\/p>

In tegenstelling tot de vrouw met de bloedvloeiing \u2013 te vinden in Matte\u00fcs 9, Marcus 5 en Lucas 8 \u2013 die vrijwillig en vol verwachting naar de Heer Jezus kwam, kwam deze vrouw niet uit vrije wil. Ze was gedwongen<\/em> om te komen, de tempelhof ingesleept nadat hij op heterdaad betrapt was op overspel. De hele sc\u00e8ne lijkt bijna in sc\u00e8ne gezet, want de eerste vraag die gesteld moet worden is: Waar is de man?<\/strong><\/p>

De wet stelde duidelijk dat beide<\/em> Deelnemers die op overspel betrapt werden, moesten ter verantwoording worden geroepen (Leviticus 20:10; Deuteronomium 22:22). Waarom werd dan alleen de vrouw naar voren geroepen? De tekst geeft het antwoord: \u201cDit zeiden ze om Hem op de proef te stellen, zodat ze iets zouden hebben om Hem van te beschuldigen.\u201d<\/em> (vers 6).<\/p>

Deze vrouw werd gebruikt als lokaas in hun poging om de Heer Jezus in de val te lokken. Maar de Heer kende alle mensen en wist wat er in hun hart omging (Johannes 2:24-25). Hij kende de harten van haar aanklagers en het hart van de vrouw die voor Hem stond.<\/p>

In plaats van meteen een oordeel over haar te vellen, oordeelde Hij de rechters<\/strong> en zei:, \u201c"Wie van jullie zonder zonde is, laat die als eerste een steen naar haar werpen."\u201d <\/em>Volgens de wet moesten de aanklagers de eerste stenen werpen (Deuteronomium 17:7). Gedreven door hun eigen geweten begonnen ze te vertrekken \u2013 te beginnen met de oudsten en eindigend met de jongsten (vers 9).<\/p>

De vrouw stond daar alleen met de Heer Jezus. Hij, de zondeloze, was de enige aanwezige die het recht had haar te veroordelen. Misschien wachtte ze op een oordeel uit Zijn rechtvaardige lippen. Maar in plaats daarvan hoorde ze deze genadige woorden: \u201cOok ik veroordeel je niet; ga heen en zondig niet meer.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>

Zijn heilige aanwezigheid onthulde die dag ieders hart, en Hij blijft verkondigen:, \u201cIk ben het licht van de wereld. Wie Mij volgt, zal niet in de duisternis wandelen, maar het licht des levens hebben.\u201d<\/em><\/p>

Ankerpunt voor vandaag:<\/strong>
O, wat een Verlosser is Jezus de Heer!,
Moge Zijn naam door Zijn heiligen vereerd worden!
Hij heeft hen door Zijn bloed van de hel verlost.,
Hij redde hen voor altijd en bracht hen tot God.<\/p>

Nu wacht Hij in de heerlijkheid om die te openbaren.
Vrede voor het geweten en vreugde voor het hart \u2014
Wacht om genadig te zijn, te vergeven en te genezen.
Allen die hun zonde en ellende voelen.<\/p>

Duizenden zijn naar Zijn door speren doorboorde zijde gevlucht.,
Ze zijn allemaal welkom, niemand wordt geweigerd;
Vermoeid en beladen zijn zij allen gezegend.,
