But He needed to go through Samaria. So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph\u2026 A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, \u201cGive Me a drink.\u201d For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, \u201cHow is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?\u201d For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.<br \/><strong data-start=\"139\" data-end=\"158\">John 4:3\u20135, 7\u20139<\/strong><br \/><\/em><\/p><p data-start=\"659\" data-end=\"874\"><br data-start=\"697\" data-end=\"700\" \/>This encounter with Christ is a very precious one. It reminds us that no matter how broken your past may be, it is never beyond the reach of a loving and gracious God.<\/p><p data-start=\"876\" data-end=\"1291\">The Samaritan woman who met the Lord Jesus at the well of Sychar came simply to draw water. She likely came with empty pots\u2014symbols of her own life: empty and dry. She had been searching for love and acceptance, having tried relationship after relationship\u2014five husbands and now living with a man who was not her husband (4:17\u201318). Each experience left her with the same unfulfilled longing deep within her heart.<\/p><p data-start=\"1293\" data-end=\"1766\">Now she meets another Man\u2014but this One is different. He is willing to cross every racial and social barrier. Though He was a Jewish man, He asked her, a Samaritan woman with a troubled past, for a drink. This deeply puzzled her. Yet she could tell that this Man was different\u2014by the way He looked at her, and by the way He spoke to her. He did not dwell on the barriers of race or social standing; instead, He looked straight into her heart and spoke to her deepest need.<\/p><p data-start=\"1768\" data-end=\"1959\">\u201cJesus answered and said to her, \u2018If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, \u201cGive Me a drink,\u201d you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water\u2019\u201d (4:10).<\/p><p data-start=\"1961\" data-end=\"2241\">His words confused her further: \u201cSir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water?\u201d She tried to change the subject, bringing up differences of religion and worship, but the Lord Jesus continued to focus on the need of her heart:<\/p><p data-start=\"2243\" data-end=\"2478\">\u201cWhoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.\u201d<\/p><p data-start=\"2480\" data-end=\"2823\">She went on to speak of worship, and the Lord reminded her\u2014and every reader\u2014that we are all created for that very purpose. But true worship is not found in religion; it is found in a relationship with the living God\u2014the One who created her.<\/p><p data-start=\"2480\" data-end=\"2823\"><strong>Ankerpunt voor vandaag:<\/strong><br \/>The Lord Jesus was the only One able to fill the emptiness in this woman&#8217;s heart, and He is the only One able to fill the void in yours.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Living Water For A Thirsty Soul He left Judea and departed again to Galilee.
