Burnt offering and sin offering You have not required. Then I said, \u2018Behold, I have come; in the scroll of the book it is written of me: I delight to do Your will, O my God; Your law is within my heart.\u2019\u201d<\/em><br data-start=\"442\" data-end=\"445\" \/><strong data-start=\"445\" data-end=\"467\">Psalm 40:6\u20138<\/strong><\/p><p data-start=\"498\" data-end=\"653\">Psalm 40 is considered a Messianic Psalm because it speaks prophetically of the Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ. This is confirmed in Hebrews 10:1, 4\u20137:<\/p><blockquote data-start=\"654\" data-end=\"1269\"><p data-start=\"656\" data-end=\"1269\"><em>\u201cFor the law, having a shadow of the good things to come and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect\u2026 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins. Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: \u2018Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body You have prepared for Me. In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You had no pleasure. Then I said, \u201cBehold, I have come\u2014 In the volume of the book it is written of Me\u2014 To do Your will, O God.\u201d\u2019\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote><p data-start=\"1271\" data-end=\"1557\">Some translations do not include the phrase \u201cbut You\u201d in Psalm 40; however, it helps us see the contrast that God draws between the Old Testament sacrifices and the offering of the Lord Jesus. This becomes even clearer when we read in Hebrews, <em data-start=\"1515\" data-end=\"1555\">\u201cbut a body You have prepared for Me.\u201d<\/em><\/p><p data-start=\"1559\" data-end=\"2145\">God did not delight in the Old Testament sacrifices and offerings, as stated in Psalm 40, because those sacrifices could not take away sins, as explained in Hebrews 10. Therefore, God the Father prepared a body for His Son, the Lord Jesus. In Psalm 40 we read, <em data-start=\"1820\" data-end=\"1858\">\u201cBut You have given me an open ear,\u201d<\/em> which literally means, \u201cYou have dug ears for me.\u201d The Father prepared a physical body for the Lord Jesus so that He might accomplish His will. Hebrews goes on to say, <em data-start=\"2027\" data-end=\"2129\">\u201cBy that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all\u201d<\/em> (Heb. 10:10).<\/p><p data-start=\"2147\" data-end=\"2473\">Because the Lord Jesus came into the world\u2014coming in the likeness of man, yet without sin\u2014He was able to be that perfect sacrifice for sin, a sweet-smelling aroma offered to God (Eph. 5:1\u20132). By His sacrifice, <em data-start=\"2357\" data-end=\"2457\">\u201cthis Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God\u201d<\/em> (Heb. 10:12).<\/p><p data-start=\"2475\" data-end=\"2630\"><strong>Ankerpunt voor vandaag:<\/strong><br \/>Psalm 40 speaks to us of the incarnation of the Lord Jesus Christ.
