In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.\u201d<br \/><strong data-start=\"135\" data-end=\"308\">John 16:33<\/strong><\/em><\/p><p data-start=\"714\" data-end=\"1332\">In John 13\u201317, we see the Lord Jesus with His own in the upper room, instructing them regarding His departure and their future. In chapter 13, He gave them an example of genuine love and true humility to follow. In chapter 14, He pointed them to the Father\u2019s house and reminded them of their relationship with the Father. In chapter 15, He taught them the necessity of abiding in Him and warned them that the world would hate them because it hated Him. He also promised to send the Holy Spirit to them in chapters 14\u201316. This upper room discourse concludes with the Lord Jesus declaring that He is the great Overcomer.<\/p><p data-start=\"1566\" data-end=\"1967\">Notice the contrast in this verse between \u201cin Christ\u201d and \u201cin the world.\u201d The Lord Jesus said, \u201cIn Me you may have peace,\u201d and \u201cin the world you have tribulation.\u201d In fact, the word \u201cwill\u201d is not present in some translations; it simply reads, \u201cin the world you have tribulation.\u201d We remain in this world, and tribulation is part of life in a world that has turned its own way in rebellion against God.<\/p><p data-start=\"1969\" data-end=\"2203\">Yet we are to identify with the great Overcomer. He has overcome everything that stood against us. <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Romans <\/span><\/span>3:4 speaks of the legal victory He has won, reminding us also of what we read in Colossians 2:14.<\/p><p data-start=\"2205\" data-end=\"2882\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">When the Lord Jesus said, \u201cI have overcome the world,\u201d He was declaring an abiding victory. We should not fear a defeated foe. He has not only secured a legal victory, but He has also triumphed over sin, death, and the grave. He has overcome this world system. In John 12:31 and 16:11, He speaks of victory over the ruler of this world. In <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Gospel of Luke <\/span><\/span>11:21\u201322, He is likened to the stronger man who overcomes the strong man and takes his spoils. We are told in Hebrews 2:14 that the Lord Jesus \u201chas destroyed him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and released those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.\u201d<\/p><p data-start=\"2205\" data-end=\"2882\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">This great truth was meant to encourage the disciples and provide them with peace in a world full of strife and tribulation. It should encourage each of us today as well.<\/p><p data-start=\"2205\" data-end=\"2882\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\"><strong>Anchor For Today:<br \/><\/strong>&#8220;Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.&#8221; \u2013 John 16:33<strong><br \/><\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Great Overcomer \u201cThese things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace.
