La question essentielle est donc : que signifie craindre Dieu ? Quand on pense \u00e0 la peur, on l&#039;associe souvent \u00e0 la terreur. Le dictionnaire Webster d\u00e9finit la peur comme \u201c un sentiment d&#039;anxi\u00e9t\u00e9 et d&#039;agitation provoqu\u00e9 par la pr\u00e9sence ou la proximit\u00e9 du danger, du mal, de la douleur, etc. \u201d. Pour beaucoup, cela correspond \u00e0 la sensation \u00e9prouv\u00e9e face \u00e0 un serpent, chez le m\u00e9decin ou le dentiste, ou en cas de danger extr\u00eame. C&#039;est la peur de l&#039;inconnu. Assur\u00e9ment, ce n&#039;est pas \u00e0 cette sensation que Salomon fait r\u00e9f\u00e9rence.<\/p><p>Dans notre langage courant moderne, le mot <em>peur<\/em>, Dans le contexte o\u00f9 Salomon l&#039;emploie, le terme \u00ab\u00a0craindre\u00a0\u00bb a \u00e9t\u00e9 remplac\u00e9 par \u00ab\u00a0r\u00e9v\u00e9rence\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0admiration\u00a0\u00bb ou \u00ab\u00a0grand respect\u00a0\u00bb. L&#039;auteur de ce livre nous invite \u00e0 avoir une profonde r\u00e9v\u00e9rence et un grand respect pour le Seigneur. Litt\u00e9ralement, nous devons \u00eatre saisis d&#039;admiration et d&#039;humilit\u00e9 en sa pr\u00e9sence. Craindre Dieu implique, entre autres, de le respecter et de le v\u00e9n\u00e9rer. La crainte sainte conf\u00e8re \u00e0 Dieu la place de gloire, d&#039;honneur, de r\u00e9v\u00e9rence, de reconnaissance, de louange et de pr\u00e9\u00e9minence qui lui revient. En d&#039;autres termes, craindre Dieu, c&#039;est respecter sa saintet\u00e9 en ha\u00efssant ce qu&#039;il hait et en aimant ce qu&#039;il aime, avec une saine crainte de lui d\u00e9plaire.<\/p><p>Lorsque nous craignons v\u00e9ritablement le Seigneur, nous reconnaissons qu&#039;il est le Cr\u00e9ateur et que nous sommes ses cr\u00e9atures. Il est le Ma\u00eetre et nous sommes ses serviteurs. Il est le P\u00e8re et nous sommes ses enfants. Cette attitude se manifeste par notre respect pour Dieu et sa Parole, et par notre d\u00e9sir d&#039;accomplir ce qu&#039;il nous demande dans la Bible.<\/p><p>On peut comparer ce type de peur \u00e0 celle qu&#039;un enfant \u00e9prouve envers ses parents. Si cette peur est appropri\u00e9e, l&#039;enfant sait que ses parents peuvent le punir en cas de d\u00e9sob\u00e9issance, mais cette peur est surpass\u00e9e par la conscience que la d\u00e9sob\u00e9issance blesse ses parents.
