As\u00ed que la pregunta crucial es: \u00bfqu\u00e9 significa temer a Dios? Cuando pensamos en el miedo, lo asociamos con el terror. El diccionario Webster define el miedo como \u201cun sentimiento de ansiedad y agitaci\u00f3n producido por la presencia o cercan\u00eda del peligro, el mal, el dolor, etc.\u201d. Para muchos, esto describir\u00eda la sensaci\u00f3n que se experimenta al ver una serpiente, ir al m\u00e9dico o al dentista, o encontrarse en una situaci\u00f3n de extremo peligro. Es el temor a lo desconocido. Sin duda, esta no es la sensaci\u00f3n a la que se refiere Salom\u00f3n.<\/p><p>En nuestro lenguaje vern\u00e1culo moderno, la palabra <em>miedo<\/em>, En el contexto en que lo usa Salom\u00f3n, el t\u00e9rmino \u00abtemor reverencial\u00bb se ha sustituido por \u00abreverencia\u00bb, \u00abasombro\u00bb o \u00abgran respeto\u00bb. Lo que el autor de este libro quiere decir es que debemos tener una profunda reverencia y respeto por el Se\u00f1or. Literalmente, debemos sentirnos sobrecogidos y humillados por su presencia. Temer a Dios incluye, entre otras cosas, respetarlo y reverenciarlo. El santo temor le otorga a Dios el lugar de gloria, honor, reverencia, acci\u00f3n de gracias, alabanza y preeminencia que merece. En pocas palabras, temer a Dios es respetar su santidad odiando lo que odia y amando lo que ama, con un sano temor a desagradarle.<\/p><p>Cuando realmente tememos al Se\u00f1or, reconocemos que \u00c9l es el Creador y nosotros sus criaturas. \u00c9l es el Se\u00f1or y nosotros sus siervos. \u00c9l es el Padre y nosotros sus hijos. Esta actitud se manifiesta en nuestro respeto por Dios y su Palabra, y en nuestro deseo de obedecer lo que nos dice en la Biblia.<\/p><p>Podemos relacionar este tipo de temor con el que un ni\u00f1o siente hacia sus padres. Si existe el temor adecuado, el ni\u00f1o sabe que sus padres pueden castigarlo si desobedece, pero, por encima de ese temor, est\u00e1 la certeza de que la desobediencia les causa dolor.
