\u201cCuando hagas un voto a Dios, no tardes en cumplirlo, pues a \u00c9l no le agradan los necios. Cumple lo que has prometido; mejor es no prometer que prometer y no cumplir. No dejes que tu boca te haga pecar, ni digas ante el mensajero de Dios que fue un error. \u00bfPor qu\u00e9 habr\u00eda de enojarse Dios por tu excusa y destruir la obra de tus manos? Porque en la multitud de sue\u00f1os y en la abundancia de palabras tambi\u00e9n hay vanidad. Teme a Dios.\u201d
Eclesiast\u00e9s 5:4\u20137<\/strong><\/em><\/p>

Salom\u00f3n advierte contra hacer votos a la ligera. Algunas personas hacen un voto a Dios intentando negociar con \u00c9l: \u201cSi haces esto, prometo hacer aquello\u201d. Salom\u00f3n advierte contra este tipo de acercamiento a Dios, record\u00e1ndonos que si hacemos un voto, debemos cumplirlo. \u00c9l equipara hacer promesas a Dios y luego no cumplirlas con una necedad.<\/p>

Los votos se refieren a acciones futuras, y el futuro es algo sobre lo que t\u00fa y yo tenemos muy poco control. Los votos deben considerarse sagrados y solemnes porque involucran realidades celestiales, y debemos tener cuidado de no tomarlos a la ligera. Algunas personas usan los votos para ganarse la confianza de los dem\u00e1s y aprovecharse de ellos, e incluso hay quienes intentan hacerlo con el Se\u00f1or.<\/p>

Salom\u00f3n nos advierte sobre el peligro de romper un voto, y Santiago a\u00f1ade: \u201cPero sobre todo, hermanos m\u00edos, no juren, ni por el cielo ni por la tierra ni con ning\u00fan otro juramento. Que su \u2018s\u00ed\u2019 sea \u2018s\u00ed\u2019, y su \u2018no\u2019, \u2018no\u2019, para que no caigan en condenaci\u00f3n\u201d (Santiago 5:12).<\/p>

Uno de los peligros de hacer votos es que nuestras circunstancias pueden cambiar, dificultando as\u00ed el cumplimiento de dicha promesa. Tambi\u00e9n existen votos sin fecha de finalizaci\u00f3n que pueden convertirse en una trampa, como vemos en Jueces 11:29-40, Mateo 14:6-12 y Hechos 23:20-24.<\/p>

Anan\u00edas y Safira mintieron a Dios y sufrieron su juicio al hacer un voto bajo falsas pretensiones (Hechos 5:1-11). Hubiera sido mejor que nunca hubieran hecho ese voto. Podr\u00edan haber entregado solo una parte de las ganancias de sus tierras, pero en cambio quisieron dar una falsa impresi\u00f3n ante los dem\u00e1s. Deseaban aparentar ser m\u00e1s espirituales para ganar mayor prestigio dentro de la iglesia. Este acto de hipocres\u00eda les cost\u00f3 la vida.<\/p>

Dios no nos exige que hagamos votos. En el Antiguo Testamento, los votos se ofrec\u00edan como una expresi\u00f3n voluntaria de devoci\u00f3n a Dios (N\u00fameros 30; Deuteronomio 23:21-23; Hechos 18:18). Pero, como dijo Salom\u00f3n, el Se\u00f1or nos dice a cada uno: \u201cHijo m\u00edo, dame tu coraz\u00f3n\u201d (Proverbios 23:26).<\/p>
