Direction For Life

“Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭119‬:‭105‬

We all have to make hundreds of decisions that determine the outcome of our lives. Some are minor, some are major, but together they shape the direction of our lives. In the complex world in which we live, we desperately need God’s wisdom to make sound decisions.

Have you ever turned off the lights in a room and tried to walk to the other side in the dark? I have shut off the light and attempted to navigate a room without running into chairs and other obstacles along the way. What helps tremendously is the light on our phones!

This world is a dark place, filled with many obstacles that can trip us up. But God’s Word is our source of light. It shows us the path of God’s wisdom so that we don’t have to bang our shins in the dark.

Psalm 119:18, 24, 98–101, 104, 105, and 130 all speak to this truth. This kind of wisdom does not come from neglecting the Word until a crisis hits and then opening it for emergency guidance.

You may have heard the story of the man who wanted to know God’s will, so he opened the Bible at random and pointed to a verse. It read, “Judas went and hanged himself.” Thinking that couldn’t be right, he tried again. The next verse said, “Go and do likewise.” Disturbed, he tried once more, and the verse he landed on read, “What you do, do quickly!”

God’s wisdom and direction do not come from random encounters with Scripture. They come from a deep, steady knowledge of His Word—gained over years as a person walks closely with Him.
