We may understand that <em data-start=\"643\" data-end=\"656\">God is love<\/em>, but when something bad happens\u2014because we live in a world broken by sin\u2014we begin to question. We might think that God has abandoned us or ask why He allowed a tragedy, or why He didn\u2019t prevent a painful event from happening.<\/p><p data-start=\"1245\" data-end=\"1518\">I believe there are more attributes of God than we could ever count\u2014because God is infinite! But one particular passage has always been very meaningful to me, as it beautifully highlights many of God\u2019s precious attributes. It answers the question: <em data-start=\"1497\" data-end=\"1518\">\u201cWhat is God like?\u201d<\/em><\/p><p data-start=\"1563\" data-end=\"1617\">We all know the familiar promise in <em data-start=\"1599\" data-end=\"1616\">Isaiah 40:30\u201331. <\/em>But we understand who our God is by looking at the verses that precede this powerful promise. Here\u2019s what we learn:<\/p><p data-start=\"2022\" data-end=\"2076\"><strong data-start=\"2029\" data-end=\"2054\">He is Self-Sufficient<\/strong> (<em data-start=\"2056\" data-end=\"2073\">Isaiah 40:12\u201314<\/em>) He stands alone and needs no help, no direction, no counsel, and no instruction.<br \/><strong data-start=\"2166\" data-end=\"2201\">He is Omnipotent (All-Powerful)<\/strong> (<em data-start=\"2203\" data-end=\"2217\">Isaiah 40:12<\/em>) He holds all power in His hand.<br \/><strong data-start=\"2261\" data-end=\"2295\">He is Omniscient (All-Knowing)<\/strong> (<em data-start=\"2297\" data-end=\"2318\">Isaiah 40:13\u201314, 28<\/em>) See also <em data-start=\"2331\" data-end=\"2386\">Romans 4:17; 11:33\u201336; Isaiah 42:9; 46:10; Acts 15:18<\/em>.<br \/><strong data-start=\"2396\" data-end=\"2424\">He is Righteous and Just<\/strong> (<em data-start=\"2426\" data-end=\"2440\">Isaiah 40:14<\/em>) He always does what is right. See <em data-start=\"2478\" data-end=\"2535\">Genesis 18:25; Hebrews 9:7\u20138; Psalm 119:137\u2013138; 145:17<\/em>.<br \/><strong data-start=\"2545\" data-end=\"2563\">He is All-Wise<\/strong> (<em data-start=\"2565\" data-end=\"2579\">Isaiah 40:14<\/em>) All wisdom begins and ends with Him. See <em data-start=\"2624\" data-end=\"2683\">Romans 11:33; 1 Timothy 1:17; Psalm 104:24; Proverbs 3:19<\/em>.<br \/><strong data-start=\"2693\" data-end=\"2712\">He is Sovereign<\/strong> (<em data-start=\"2714\" data-end=\"2731\">Isaiah 40:15\u201317) <\/em>Everything is under His control, and nothing takes Him by surprise. See <em data-start=\"2807\" data-end=\"2862\">1 Samuel 2:6\u20138; 1 Chronicles 29:11\u201312; Ephesians 1:11<\/em>.<br \/><strong data-start=\"2872\" data-end=\"2894\">He is Incomparable<\/strong> (<em data-start=\"2896\" data-end=\"2910\">Isaiah 40:18<\/em>) There is no one like Him. See <em data-start=\"2944\" data-end=\"2982\">Colossians 1; Hebrews 1; Ephesians 1<\/em>.<br \/><strong data-start=\"2992\" data-end=\"3014\">He is Transcendent<\/strong> (<em data-start=\"3016\" data-end=\"3033\">Isaiah 40:22\u201324<\/em>) He is far above everything and everyone else\u2014beyond all limits.<br \/><strong data-start=\"3109\" data-end=\"3126\">He is Eternal<\/strong> (<em data-start=\"3128\" data-end=\"3145\">Isaiah 40:26\u201328<\/em>) He always has been and always will be in control. See <em data-start=\"3203\" data-end=\"3232\">Isaiah 57:15; Psalm 147:3\u20134<\/em>.<br \/><strong data-start=\"3243\" data-end=\"3257\">He is Holy<\/strong> (<em data-start=\"3259\" data-end=\"3273\">Isaiah 40:25<\/em>) He is completely pure.
