The LORD Our Righteousness

“and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;”
Philippians 3:9

In Philippians 3:9 we find another name of Jehovah referred to. Here we have Jehovah-Tsidkenu, which means “The LORD Our Righteousness.”

This takes us back to Jeremiah 23:6, “In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell safely; Now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.” This speaks of the Lord Jesus in a coming day.

But for us, we know that all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags, and Paul counted all of his as rubbish. He realized that he had no righteousness in himself.

What is righteousness? The word Paul used conveys the idea of conforming to a standard or norm. In Biblical terms it is that which is acceptable to God and in keeping with what God is in His holy character. It conveys the idea of being in right relationship with God or of being rightly related to God.

This righteousness can only be ours through faith in Christ. Paul says in Romans 4, “But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness, just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works.”

Like Paul, we are found in Christ. We are accepted by God, not because of anything we can do, but because of everything He has done! In this name we see Divine Position!

Anchor For Today:
Till we behold Thee on Thy throne,
In Thee we boast, in Thee alone,
Our beauty this, our glorious dress,
Jesus the Lord, our righteousness.
