I Am The Life

“I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
John 14:6

The Lord Jesus had just been telling His disciples about His death, and now He was declaring Himself to be the source of all life. In John 10:17–18, He announced that He would lay down His life for His sheep and then take it up again. He spoke of His authority over life and death as something granted to Him by the Father.

In John 14:19, He promised, “Because I live, you also will live.” The deliverance He was about to provide was not a political or social deliverance—something most Jews were expecting—but a true deliverance: from a life of bondage to sin and death into a life of freedom that leads to eternity.

This is the eternal life given to us by the One who is life. As Jesus prayed:

“You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” John 17:2–3

We have been given “everything that pertains to life and godliness” (2 Peter 1:3).

Look back at John 14:22, where Judas (not Iscariot) asked, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?”
This raises an important question: How is the Life manifested in us today?

Jesus answered: “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.”

He then went on to speak again about the Person and work of the Holy Spirit. Through the indwelling presence and power of the Spirit of God, this life is made real in us and even expressed through us. As we follow the Word of God and live it out daily, the Holy Spirit empowers, strengthens, and conforms us to Christ.

I want to highlight something else about this life. Look at John 14:27:

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

Then consider John 15:9–11:

“As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.”

The One who says, “I am the Life,” also says, “My peace I give to you,” and “that My joy may remain in you.” This is the life we have in Christ.

Anchor For Today:
In the Lord Jesus we have life eternal and life abundant; full of peace and full of joy.
