Fear Not

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
Isaiah 41:10

Fear distorts our vision, magnifying molehills into mountains. This stumbling block from Satan can even lead us to foolishness, such as disobeying the Lord. That is why the Lord repeatedly admonishes us: “Fear not, nor be dismayed.”The phrase “fear not” and its positive counterpart, “be of good courage,” occur again and again in Scripture. God does not want His people to live with shaky knees and jittery hands. He has “not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Tim. 1:7). Four times in the first chapter of Joshua, God told Joshua: “Be strong and of good courage.” The message took root, and Joshua moved forward into the land and conquered even the impregnable fortress of Jericho.

It is God’s design for believers to live by faith, not fear. This doesn’t mean we will never feel afraid, but it does mean we need not live faintheartedly. Someone once said: “Fear knocked at the door. Faith answered, and there was no one there.” That is what the Lord desires of us—that we conquer our battles by trusting the living God and depending fully on Him.

You and I are in constant conflict with the powers of darkness, and there is no room for timidity or fear. Whatever you are facing today—whether a struggling marriage, cancer, loneliness, or wayward children—reject your fears and embrace faith. God is in control. He will strengthen you and hold you by His righteous right hand.
